“I’ve got crews working on the Florida and Tennessee projects, so I don’t have to travel out there more than once a month. The condo project downtown finishes up next week, and I closed out two of my other jobs today. “Listen, is this going to be a big project? Yes, it absolutely will be, but the turnaround should be less than six months, start to finish, and the profit margin has the potential to be huge.” Jake paused his enthusiastic speech just long enough to shovel several forkfuls of spaghetti into his mouth, swallowing half and continuing excitedly around the noodles. “Really, I’m doing you both a favor by bringing it to your attention before anyone else finds it!”
Jake was still talking with his mouth full, which was more than I could tolerate. “Jacob,” I interrupted.
Jake stopped speaking and chewing immediately, looking up at me with stricken eyes. I didn’t typically call him by his full name, but considering he’d barely let Eric or me speak in nearly two hours and was now talking around a mouthful of food, I decided I needed to get his attention quickly.
“I appreciate your enthusiasm, but we have all night, sweetheart. You can slow down and chew your food.” I smiled gently to take the sting out of my rebuke.
Jake had the good grace to blush, set his fork down, and finish chewing before shooting me a lopsided grin. “Sorry, Master.” He wiggled his eyebrows deviously at me, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at his antics.
“Careful, baby boy. It was a long day, and wiping that smirk off your face sounds extremely tempting.” The pitch of my voice dropped as I stared at him.
