Everyone knows him as a reformed playboy—the charming middle school principal with a reputation he’s determined to leave behind. She’s the substitute teacher who knows better than to fall for men like him, and a bestselling author who understands love perfectly on the page. In real life, she’s already lived her one great love and built her walls high ever since. He falls fast and refuses to give up, chasing her through doubts and distance with patience and persistence. No matter how often she runs, he’s there, proving that some loves don’t fade after loss—they wait, quietly and stubbornly, to be found again.
Chapter 1
JESSE
“Yes, yes, yes! Jesse! Yes!” Nina Edgewater cried out as I continued to drive into her from behind.
Normally, I liked it when women screamed my name while I was taking them over my desk. However, something had changed recently. I was starting to get bored by the constant string of women I had coming through my office each day. The routine was becoming monotonous.
Pull up your skirt.
Take off my pants.
Bend over the desk.
Put on a condom.
Don’t look at me.
Don’t kiss me.
I’m going to fuck you until we both come.
Okay, you can leave now.
It was the same thing repeatedly, and the theatrics were starting to become just that…theatrical.
My twin brother Wesley would have told me I should have found a nice girl to settle down with by now. That was easy for him to say. He met his wife when he was just twenty-two years old and fell in love at the sight of her. However, we were thirty-three now. After years of goofing off and fucking the moms whose kids were in trouble or who just wanted to schedule special “meeting time” with me…the entire act was wearing on me.
I looked down again at my hard cock sliding in and out of Nina. She’d lost some weight. Her waist had gotten smaller since the last time she was in here because of her son Devin.
I tried to do the mental math to remember how long ago that was.
Must have been…only two weeks ago.
I really need to talk to her about Devin’s fighting once I’m done here.
Sometimes I wondered if it was Devin acting out or if his mom was provoking him so that she could get called in for our semi-regular fucks. I knew she was lonely, but she’d told me she was dating again. I hoped she’d find someone soon to take care of her. She deserved a guy who could give her more than I was capable of giving her.
I tried my best to hold on to her hips and steady her from bouncing off the desk. What little there was didn’t give me much to work with. I pulled out and pumped back in, trying to press in deeper to find my release, as if it was hidden somewhere inside of her.
I heard Nina let out a soft groan and felt her insides contracting as she came, but I was nowhere close.
Something was bugging me. Something was off today. I was distracted. I couldn’t even focus on the half-naked woman I was currently inside.
Gripping her hips harder, I smashed into her at a rapid pace as I chased my release repeatedly. The distraction was becoming overbearing now as I tried to focus on anything, anyone, to get to the finish line.
Maybe I need to take a break from sex? Is it possible to dull the sensation if you do it too much?
My mind wandered, causing my cock to start to soften.
Oh, fuck no. That’s probably the worst thing that can happen to a man.
I tried to think of something different, but I couldn’t focus. I knew what my problem was. I’d never felt a true connection to any of the women I’d been with. It’d been nothing but sex for me, and it was starting to wear me down.
I fantasized about what it’d be like to be pussy whipped like my brother. To have someone who was so committed to me, someone that I loved so deeply that I never wanted to be with anyone else.
Nope. Can’t picture it.
Though I couldn’t imagine it, the thought was enough to get me hard enough to reach the edge. After one final push, I released, letting out the most disappointing ejaculation I’d had since I was a teen and first realized what a penis could do.
I helped Nina stand up, spinning her around as she smoothed down her skirt.
“Please tell Devin to stop starting fights in the cafeteria. I already told his teacher he’s going to be suspended for a week if this happens again. This will impact his ability to advance to the ninth grade.”
She smiled in response.
Kind of fucked up that a mom smiles after hearing her kid might be held back a grade.
“Sure, Jesse. I’ll make sure he stays out of trouble.” She stepped up on her toes and kissed me gently on the cheek. “Thank you. For everything. I’ll see you soon.”
I watched as the door opened and closed behind her as I slumped down at my desk. I tossed the used condom into the trashcan below me carelessly as I buckled my suit pants.
Something about the entire situation left me feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. I might as well have not even come at this point because the release did little to take the edge off the ache that persisted in my balls. I considered taking a hand to my cock, trying to release one more time, but I knew I couldn’t get there today. There was a smell in the air, and it wasn’t from the sex we’d just had.
I looked at the calendar on my computer, noting I had just ten minutes until my three o’clock meeting with another mom whose kid had been fighting.
What the hell is going on with these kids?
We were midway through the year, and the colder winter months were in full swing in DC. This usually brought out the kids’ aggressive behavior since recess and gym classes were moved indoors.
I slid my phone out of my desk and dialed my twin brother, Wesley.
“What’s up, bro?”
“How’s my new baby niece?”
Wesley chuckled. “Adorable. Everything good, perfect, and beautiful in life. Gotta find a way to keep her away from boys until she’s fifty. Don’t want her running into any losers like you.”
I laughed. If only he knew just how true that statement was.
“What are you up to? When are you going to meet a nice woman who can give Atlas some cousins?” he asked.
I sighed. “Probably never at the rate I’m tearing through the moms at this school.”
Wesley chuckled. “Trust me. When the right one comes along, it’ll be at the least expected moment. You’ll know.”
I rolled my eyes. “Not sure how my phone call turned into a Hallmark movie script, but the real reason I called was to see if you were working tonight so I could stop by the firehouse and get a good gym session in.”
“You that desperate for sex? Need to work out your frustration?”
If you only knew the amount of unsatisfying sex I’d been having lately.
“I’m working tonight. Stop by whenever after six,” he said.
I ended the call just as my administrative assistant buzzed through, informing me that Diego Torres and his mom, Mrs. Torres, had arrived for their three o’clock appointment.
“Thanks, Kate. Send them in.”
I quickly tidied up my desk, organizing the chaos left behind by Nina Edgewater’s earlier visit. When I finally glanced up, Mrs. Torres and Diego were seated across from me.
My attention first fell on Diego, a twelve-year-old boy with shaggy brown hair and nervous, round brown eyes that peered back at me. I hadn’t seen him in my office before, and I couldn’t recall spotting him around the school’s campus either. This must be his first run-in with trouble since I took over as principal five years ago.
Then, I turned to Mrs. Torres.
You know that cliché Wesley had just told me about love at first sight? About knowing instantly when you’ve met the one?
Yeah, all that cheesy bullshit nonsense that doesn’t happen in real life.
But when our eyes met, I felt it. In that split second, I knew I was doomed.
