Chapter 27

Jeremy

This situation is spiraling into a whole new level of strange. I let out a sigh of frustration before turning to Alpha Trent.

“I’m beat, man. I think I’m going to find my room and hit the hay. I can’t handle all this on the little sleep I’ve had.”

Alpha Trent looks shocked at my words, as if he can’t believe I’d say something like that about our mates, especially in front of them. But I’m too damn tired to care.

As I head for the door, both girls turn to me. But it’s the one on the right who speaks up.

“Hold on! Don’t you want to spend the night with your mate? We understand this is a lot to process, and we’re not trying to rush you.

“But when you guys are ready, we’ll switch and then share together, or we’ll go straight to having you both at the same time. We know it’s a lot to take in.”

The one on the left chimes in. “Kiss the one you think is your mate.”

I furrow my brows, unsure why she’s asking this. There’s a fifty-fifty chance I’ll get it wrong, but I trust my instincts.

“Why?” I ask, locking eyes with Trent, who seems just as baffled and fed up with this situation as I am, but is way more polite about it.

Both girls narrow their eyes, clearly getting irritated with my lack of cooperation.

I let out a growl of annoyance before striding up to the one I believe is my Cora. I know that once I kiss her, the mate bond will intensify.

I figure that’s part of why they want me to do this, but what if I’m wrong and I kiss Nora instead?

Aside from Trent beating the shit out of me, if they truly share everything through their bond, does that mean I’ll feel some sort of connection to Nora too?

Shaking off that thought, I gently wrap my hand around her neck and fist the back of her hair, tilting her head back to make it easier for me to lean down and kiss her.

I plan for it to be a quick peck, but the moment our lips touch, those damn tingles explode.

She gasps at the contact, giving me the perfect opportunity to slip my tongue between her parted lips.

I explore her mouth with my tongue, earning a sexy moan from her as she wraps her arms around me, trying to pull me closer.

This is definitely my Cora. I knew it. When we finally break apart for air, we’re both panting. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Nora smirking slightly.

I turn back to Cora, giving her swollen lips one last peck before pulling away completely.

I grab my bag and head for the door. “So, do I have to find my own way to my room, or…?”

I leave the sentence hanging, glancing back at Cora, who’s still standing there, looking stunned.

She seems to snap out of her daze and shakes her head before quietly following me out the door.

When she catches up to me, she asks, “How did you know it was me?” I give her a half-smirk and shrug.

“How do you know I knew? Who says I wasn’t just guessing?” She smacks my shoulder before leading me up the stairs.

“I’m serious! You didn’t hesitate—you knew! How?” She seems genuinely puzzled, which makes me think that not many people, if anyone, can tell the two girls apart.

I shrug again as we stop outside a door. “Well, you gave yourself away. You got frustrated with my frustration.”

Her mouth drops open in understanding and it takes all my self-control not to take her right there against the wall. Damn, this is going to be tough. I want her, I want her bad.

But I don’t want to rush the mate bond. I want to take things slow, so I don’t get my heart broken again. I’m not letting that happen.

Clearing my throat, I point to the door. “Is this my room?” I ask. She licks her lips and nods, shifting uncomfortably.

I can tell she wants to say something, so I wait—somewhat patiently—for her to spit it out.

“Yeah, this is your room…but since we’re mates…you could sleep in my room.” Her eyes darken as she bites her bottom lip. Damn, this girl is hot.

I let out a soft groan, but shake my head, praying to the moon goddess that Cora doesn’t notice my hard-on.

“Uh, no. I’ll sleep here tonight. Thanks.” I turn away from her, but not before catching the hurt look on her face.

My heart clenches and I sigh. I have to do something. Goddess, give me the strength to pull away after this.

I drop my bag and grab Cora, pushing her against the wall before crashing my lips onto hers. I lift her arms above her head as she moans into my mouth.

Our tongues dance together and the faint taste of vanilla fills my senses.

Cora wraps a leg around my waist and starts to grind into me, making enticing little noises.

It makes me want to throw caution to the wind and rip off the clothes separating us.

Groaning, almost in pain, I pull away from her. Our eyes are dark with desire, and our breathing is heavy. Closing my eyes, I gather my composure and whisper, “Goodnight, Cora.”

Then I pull away completely and practically dive into the safety of the room, making sure the door is shut before leaning against it.

What the hell am I going to do? How am I supposed to keep my distance from a girl who is apparently my other half?
