Skylar and her mom went back to their hotel with the tour bus. They would need to change into their night outfits as they were going to dinner with the other tour members. She was wearing her red flowing dress when she entered her mother’s room.
Even Mom was impressed with her outfit choice. “I see you are working overtime for the tour guide.”
Skylar laughed and twirled around. “Oh no, Mom, more like for Prince Charming.”
Her mom rolled her eyes. “They don’t come around often, the ‘Prince Charmings’ you are talking about.”
Skylar knew why her mom didn’t believe in Prince Charming. It was all because of her dad. Her mom had never wanted her to find out what exactly happened between her and her dad, but one night, she had gotten too drunk and told her the whole story.
“Skylar.”
“Yes?” She came back to the present. She had zoned out a bit.
“Where did you go off to?”
“Nowhere.”
“Are you nervous about starting the second semester of school?”
“No.”
Skylar went behind her mom to the tour bus where they were taken to dinner. She had lied about school, and it was plaguing her so much. She knew who she had to face, but for now, her worries faded when she saw the tour guide looking at her with huge eyes.
Skylar sat at the dinner table and she found herself trying not to think about school. She would enjoy her holiday. She had replied to a message from Lola. She had replied to the only friend that she had back at school.
She remembered how Lola was also dreading school. She knew most of it had to do with Tyler, the guy that she liked but she tried to act indifferent about. Skylar had seen how Lola avoided Tyler like the plague.
Tyler sat next to Skylar in science, but he also didn’t talk about Lola, and it seemed as if he was also avoiding her like the plague.
He did know that they were friends yet he wasn’t the least bit curious.
“Skylar?”
“Yes? Mom?”
“The young man is asking you to dance.”
Skylar turned to find that the tour guide had held his hand out for her. “Of course. Sorry I didn’t notice that you had asked me.”
He smiled at her. “I figured, would you like to dance?”
Skylar nodded shyly, knowing that her mom was there.
“Don’t wander off with her,” her mom warned.
“We won’t,” he replied.
They went to the dance floor, and she followed his movements.
“I must say your name is beautiful.”
“How did you know my name?”
“Skylar, I am your tour guide. I have to know these things.”
Skylar blushed, how could she have forgotten that? She changed the subject, “What is your name?”
“Hayden,” he replied lightly.
“That’s a beautiful name.”
He chuckled, “That’s the first time anyone has called my name beautiful.”
“Oh so sorry, it’s a handsome name I guess.”
Hayden laughed more. “I don’t mind if you find it beautiful, you know.”
“Thanks.”
“I should be thanking you, Skylar, for the compliment.”
Skylar nodded, getting red again. Why was she being clumsy?
“Are you allowed to do these sorts of things with your clients and how many of them have you done this with?”
Hayden pulled her closer. “This is the first time that I have done this. Or approaching a girl for the first time. I never do these and you are…”
“Why are you here, Hayden?”
“Before I answer you let me say, I love the way that you say my name.”
“But I am here because I have to pay for my tuition, and so here I am. I am also an au pair.”
Skylar nodded against him. “That is amazing.”
They continued dancing until they had to head back to the hotel. Before he left, he gave her a quick hug.
When they got to their hotel room, Skylar knew her mom had a billion questions.
“So you two, huh?”
“Mom, I’m not discussing my love life with you.”
“Now you have a love life?”
“You know what I mean.”
“But I don’t, sweetheart.”
Skylar squealed.
Now she had to convince her mom to let her go.
