It was yet another sunny day. I just love the heat because of all the energy inside of me. Because of Helia.
Bella is still sleeping, and I cannot comprehend how I am going to tell her that today she has to die but that she will come back to life, looking for blood to feed on, or else she'll die. I have always wanted Bella to become the creature she is destined to be, but I didn't want her to be that just yet. She is very young… she is a baby. But she is very smart. I am certain that she will understand.
Growing up as a human, I had always wished that I had powers when I was younger. I didn't want Bella to live the way I lived… not knowing who she really is. That's why I told her that she has powers. I haven’t told her what exactly she is, but she knows that she is a supernatural being.
I look to my right to see Helia sitting on one of the couches. She looks tiny, as if she isn't that gigantic creature. I want to tell her to return to my body, but I still don't know how. I could tell that she likes herself outside of my body because she gets to go wherever she wants.
“Helia…,” I start. I hesitate a bit, but eventually let the words fly out of my mouth. “I think it's time to come back inside my body.”
I wait for a few seconds until she speaks up.
Her tiny body blurs as she enters my body. All the red energy starts swirling around my body in a tornado-like form. I feel two things inside of me connect and suddenly, I feel whole.
I’ve almost forgotten how complete I felt when Helia was inside of me. Her soul is not the only thing that impacts me, but her body and mind as well.
“I thought you were happy,” I say in confusion.
I miss this too…
“Bonjour.” I smile, giving her a kiss. “How did you sleep? Good?”
“Oui. I dream of a girl, again,” she says.
“Did she tell you something this time?”
“Oui.”
“What?”
“She told me to come.”
“Where?”
“Bella, there is something we have to talk about.” I started kneeling to her level.
“Oui?”
“Do you remember last year when I told you that you have powers?” I ask, and she nods. “Well, we must use one.” I try to explain in a way that she understands.
I thought that it was going to be hard to tell her and kill her, but I guess Ivan left Helia and me no feelings at all. Even though she took all the pain from me, I grew emotionless. I rarely feel anything, even toward Bella. The only feeling I had was when she called me “Mama” for the first time. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love her or care for her.
Her eyes widen. She understands.
“But you will wake up again. But you will be a vampire,” I try to explain.
“Vampire?” she says, trying to pronounce it.
“Vampires drink blood. It’s gross, I know. But you get powers like I told you before.”
“Like what?”
“Speed, compulsion, heal.” I list the three most important benefits of being a vampire.
“Umm, okay.” She nods with a smile, as she seems to understand what I said.
“Also, do you remember when I told you that our family is far?” I continue, and she nods. “Well, when you become a vampire, we will go and visit them,” I say, earning a squeal.
If only she knew…
It is midnight. Bella is asleep. I told her to sleep so that she would not be afraid.
“Helia, are you sure we should do this?”
“Okay, but are you ready? To go back home?”
My original plan was to put a knife through her heart, but I found a better and painless way. My magic. I could easily cast a spell to stop her heart.
I walk toward her room and open her door softly. I stand in front of her bed and start chanting the spell. It is a very simple spell that I learned when I came to France. I have spent those five years learning more about myself along with taking care of Bella.
With my intense hearing, I can hear her heart stop. Her breathing comes down to none. She stops moving.
After I make sure she is dead, I stop chanting and go to sit on a chair with the bag of blood in my hand. She should wake up in a few hours maximum.
“Helia, I know this is late, but I am not ready for everything that is going to happen when we go back.”
“That’s not what I meant, Helia. I am not ready for if something happens to Bella. I cannot lose her.”
“You are right. I just hope everything goes smoothly.”
“Also, there is this girl Bella has been dreaming about. A girl that wants Bella to come to her. I don’t know who she is.”
“I hope not.”
I look at Bella to see her eyeing the bag of blood.
I slowly walk toward her and sit on the bed. She looks tired, bags under her eyes and black circles. Her eyes slowly start turning red as she snatches the bag from me and takes it all in.
“Slowly, Bella,” I say, and she immediately listens.
Good.
When she finishes the bag of blood, she looks up at me and smiles. “Merci, Maman.”
“For what?”
“I feel good,” she replies, making me smile.
I hug her tightly, and for the first time in years, a tear rolls down my cheek.
