It had been a week since Dominic had thrown her in a dungeon beneath the pack house. She had cursed herself multiple times for not leaving when she could have.
For worrying about Dominic when he’d taken off.
Even though he’d thrown her in here with the intention of finding answers, he had never come down. No one had. It was like they’d forgotten she was even down here.
She got food twice a day, but she never saw anyone put it down. Her mind wandered to everything that had happened.
Being tortured and abused by her pack.
Her pack being murdered by Blake and his pack.
Being Blake’s prisoner.
Being Dominic’s prisoner.
The change error.
Dominic seeing her scars.
The fight that she interrupted.
Hearing the names of both wolves.
Telling them her life story.
Meeting Lia and the others.
Finding out her father was still alive.
Being called something other than a human.
Being thrown in a fucking cell!!!!
She cried multiple times over everything. It was like everything that had happened finally caught up with her. Why did it all have to happen to her?
What did she do wrong to deserve this?
Tears rolled down her cheeks again. She sat down on her cot and pulled her knees to her chest. She rested her head on her knees and sobbed for the millionth time.
“How is she?” Dominic asked Kyle as he came in.
“She’s still crying,” Kyle said.
Dominic felt his heart ache. He never wanted to do this. But his pack was what he had to think about. “That means it’s working.”
Blake stood up. “Why this mental torture? Why make her feel all alone?” he asked.
Zack glared daggers at Blake. Dominic was allowing Blake and his minions to stay at the pack house until they got some answers, but that didn’t take the hate and mistrust away.
“Because to really get through to someone, you have to mentally break them down. Only then can you really get some answers, because they would do anything for some contact and the chance to get out.”
“But she has been tortured her entire life.”
“Only physical. Not mental.”
Dominic looked up at Blake. Why did that not make him feel better?
She probably had experienced every pain in her body that she could get, and now they put her through mental pain as well. Dominic sighed. “It’s been a week—”
Before he could finish his sentence, Cora busted through the door. Everyone looked at her in shock. “Mothe—”
“Don’t!” Again he couldn’t finish. His mother barely had control over her wolf, and she looked furious. She took a step toward her son. “You will tell me what’s going on right now!”
Dominic clenched his jaw. He felt Mike come forward. This was his mother, but this disrespect was something he did not accept. He growled lowly.
“Dominic Lupine, don’t you dare growl at me! You may be my alpha, but you’re also my son! Now tell me why I can hear that girl crying every day for a week? What are you doing to her?”
Dominic did his best not to let Mike take control. “Nothing. We’re doing nothing to her.”
Cora’s brows furrowed. “Then why is she crying?”
Dominic stood up from his chair. “Because of that. We kept everyone away from her. She hasn’t seen anyone in a week. Her mind is reviewing everything that happened. That’s why she’s crying.”
Cora looked at him in shock. Her eyes changed to gray with yellow and golden lines running through them, the eyes that every pack member had except the alpha, beta, and gamma.
“You’re torturing her mentally.” As she spoke, something in her clicked, and her wolf came forward. She jumped at him and changed in midair into her gray wolf with black paws.
Mike took control and changed as she landed on him. He threw her out the window and jumped after her.
“Fuck, Mike!” Zack yelled after him. The two wolves landed on the ground and snarled at each other. She pounced on Mike and tried to jump on his back.
Mike evaded her and bit her paw. She howled in pain. She bit his tail, and Mike let her paw go. Mike jumped on her back and buried his teeth in her neck. She whimpered and went down.
Cora’s wolf growled at him.
“That girl has been tortured and abused for most of her life, and now you’re continuing her pain by torturing her mentally. Are you crazy!? What do you think your father would say if he saw you doing this to her?”
She slowly stood up. Mike growled loudly, and the pack members watching fell to their knees. Marline did her best to keep standing.
“Don’t you dare lecture me like that. She could be a danger, and this is the best way to get information without actually hurting her!”
“You are hurting her! Do you know how much it hurts to be all alone in a place you don’t know and where you can trust no one?”
An ache went through his body listening to his mother’s words. “This is the only way.”
Marline growled lowly. “Then you’re no better than those fucking rogues.”
That did it. Mike pounced at her and threw her on her back. She whimpered in shock as he grabbed her throat with his teeth. He bit down, and she howled a soul-crushing howl.
“Mike, stop!” Mike’s eyes snapped to Dean. Zack’s wolf was in front of him, a little crouched down to show he wasn’t challenging him. “You’re killing her, Mike. You’re killing your mother.”
Mike tasted his mother’s blood in his mouth and immediately let go. She lay unconscious on the floor.
“Mike, how could you do that!” Dominic screamed in his head.
“I’m sorry... S—something in me snapped when she called me rogue. I—I’m sorry, Nic.”
“Change back. Now!”
Mike whimpered at what he had done and obeyed. Dominic looked at Marline. Dean also changed back.
“Zack, take my mother to Doc.” His voice was low and husky.
“Yes, Alpha.” Zack picked up Marline and walked with the unconscious wolf to the infirmary.
“Fuck…,” Dominic said, running his hands over his face.
“You okay?” asked Blake, who was leaning against the pack house.
“I didn’t think you would care,” he said, walking toward Blake.
“I’m full of surprises. Now get cleaned up and dressed. We have a not-so-human Kiara to see. She would freak out if she saw you covered in blood,” Blake said.
Dominic sighed, knowing he was right. He walked inside the pack house and went to his room.
She heard wolves above her. They were fighting. Maybe Blake and Dominic were killing each other. She hoped that they were. Kiara lay down on her cot and looked at the wall opposite her.
The walls were made completely of silver. So were the bars. They were also wet from the wolfsbane. Every now and then she would hear water leaking, and the walls would get a fresh soaking of wolfsbane.
This cell was meant to hold a wolf. She sighed. Was she really something else?
And if she was, what?
“Leto.” She immediately sat upright. She heard the voice again. “Leto.” It was but a whisper, but she could hear it. She wasn’t dreaming, was she?
“Leto, come to me!” Her head snapped toward the wall opposite her, and her feet moved like she wasn’t the one in control anymore.
“Leto.” The voice became louder. She stopped in front of the wall. “Come to me.” Her body moved without her controlling it. She raised her hand to the wall and slowly placed it on the wall.
When her hand touched the wall, she screamed out in pain. The voice laughed. She heard the door open, and she was pulled away from the wall.
The trance disappeared as soon as her hand left the wall. She was set down on her cot. With tears in her eyes, Kiara looked at the palm of her hand, which was entirely burned.
Tears rolled over her cheeks. “What the hell did you do?” Dominic asked her as he and Blake looked at her in shock.
“I—I…” She thought over everything that had happened in the last few minutes.
“Talk,” Blake said.
“I heard a voice...” Her voice was husky from not talking for a week.
“It called to me—well not me. He said a different name, but I was drawn to it. It told me to come to him, and my body moved like it wasn’t my own. I put my hand on the wall, and the rest is what you saw.”
Dominic and Blake glared at her. “Was it the first time you heard this voice?” Dominic asked. Kiara shook her head. “When?”
“The night when you threw me in here. Before you came back, I heard his voice in my sleep. It called me the same name.”
“What did it call you?” Blake asked, crossing his arms.
“Leto.” Blake and Dominic froze.
“Oh fuck no…”
“That’s not possible…”
