Days slipped by without another threat, and we found ourselves back in a bubble of bliss.
“Fancy a movie?” Roman asked, as we tidied up after dinner.
“Sounds perfect,” I replied, switching on the dishwasher.
“Great, comedy or action?” He quirked an eyebrow.
I thought for a moment, then said, “They say laughter is the best medicine.”
Roman chuckled. “Can’t argue with that.”
We moved to the living room, where he turned on the TV and pulled up a streaming service.
“What about this one?” He pointed at the screen as he settled next to me on the couch.
“Oh, I love this one! It’s a classic!”
Roman was quickly catching on to my fondness for 80s and 90s comedies.
“You’re a classic,” he murmured, “a classic beauty.”
I laughed and leaned in to kiss him.
Our chemistry was palpable.
As our lips met, a shiver ran through me.
Unable to resist, I climbed onto his lap, peppering kisses along his throat and ears.
Roman let out a low growl, tossing the remote aside. “Eager for dessert, are we?”
“You know it,” I moaned as he stood, holding me against his hips.
“What are you doing?” I giggled as he spun around, setting me back on the couch and dropping to his knees.
“I’m still hungry,” he murmured, sliding his hand under my dress to pull down my panties.
Before I could respond, he was between my legs, his tongue flicking over my clit.
He hoisted my legs over his shoulders, diving into my pussy with fervor.
My thighs trembled as I squirmed under his touch.
He slid two fingers inside me, his tongue still working my clit. Waves of pleasure washed over me.
“Yes, Roman, oh god, yes!” I cried out, coming hard over his fingers.
“Fuck me, please, fuck me,” I begged. He didn’t hesitate, pulling down his pants and plunging into me.
His size took my breath away as he filled me.
The rhythmic pounding and the slap of skin against skin echoed in the room.
My heart pounded in my chest as I panted, begging for more.
“Harder, Roman!” I dug my fingers into his ass, “harder.”
He didn’t need to be told twice.
Roman thrust harder, and I came again, crying out in ecstasy as we climaxed together.
He collapsed on top of me, his breath ragged against my skin.
We were still tangled together, half-dressed, when the knock came at the door.
Roman glanced at his watch. “Who could that be?”
I shrugged and started to get up, but he stopped me.
“I got it,” he said, pulling up his pants. I rolled my eyes but let him go.
His protectiveness was starting to grow on me. I’d never had someone care for me like this.
“Agent Marfa?” Roman’s voice was surprised as he peered through the peephole and opened the door.
“Roman, sorry to disturb you so late, but we need to come in.” I looked down the hall to see several officers behind Agent Marfa.
“What’s this about?” Roman’s voice was hard.
“Sir, we have a warrant,” Agent Marfa held up a piece of paper. Roman stepped aside, letting them into the penthouse.
“What’s going on?” I got up and walked down the hall.
“Sage,” Agent Marfa nodded at me, “I’m sorry to tell you this, but Ekko has escaped from prison. As his closest relatives, we need to search the premises.”
Roman paled, then flushed with anger.
“You think I would harbor that monster after everything he’s done?” he roared, waving the warrant.
I felt sick at the thought of Ekko on the loose.
“Excuse me,” I mumbled, rushing to the bathroom.
“Fine, get on with it. We don’t have all night,” Roman’s voice echoed down the hall as I shut the bathroom door.
I barely made it to the toilet before I threw up.
Was it the stress? I’d read that it could cause nausea, but I’d never experienced it before.
I don’t know how long I was in there, but it felt like forever before the vomiting stopped.
I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and opened the door to find Agent Marfa waiting.
“What’s this?” She held up an envelope from my drawer.
I swallowed hard. “It’s nothing. Just a hoax. I found it a few days ago.”
Agent Marfa looked worried for a moment, then said, “We’ll take it to the lab, just to be safe.”
I nodded. “Thank you.”
By the time they finished, our penthouse was a mess. Every drawer and cupboard had been rifled through. I felt violated.
“You okay? You look pale,” Roman said, touching my forehead.
“I don’t know. I heard about Ekko and I just felt sick,” I said, sinking onto the couch.
“I know the feeling,” he said.
“Alright, we’re done here,” one of the officers called.
Roman grumbled as we watched them leave.
“Thanks for your cooperation. Good night,” Agent Marfa said, closing the door behind her.
“Fucking hell,” Roman groaned, throwing his head back.
“Just when we thought things were getting better,” I said.
“This was supposed to be our time, our happy ending,” Roman said, clenching his fists. “We were supposed to have a normal life. No more bullshit.”
I nodded, letting him vent before I put my hand on his back.
“I guess happily ever after will have to wait,” I whispered.
Roman pulled me into a hug, kissing the top of my head. “We’ll get there one day, I promise.”
I nodded, tracing my fingers along his jaw. “I’m counting on it,” I said, trying to sound confident.
I wasn't certain we'd ever find our happily ever after. My stomach churned with unease as I pondered our future.
Just turmoil and theatrics.
