Cassie was twenty-nine, and for the first time in her life, she was getting on a bull in a rodeo competition. Her family was going to be very proud of her.

The bull she’d drawn was Tornado Tom, a blue-gray beast that had dumped more cowboys than had lasted eight seconds on his back. This end-of-July rodeo was his first go-round with a cowgirl.
