Harry Preston. My brother's best friend. The ice hockey player I should not be looking at. But when he's there for me when everything starts to crumble, I can't help those feelings I've always had for him shining through.

Evie Carter. My best friend's sister. The girl who looks like a goddess and is completely off-limits. But it's getting harder now that we are living together. I'd promised her brother I'd look out for her, and in doing so, made me fall harder than I already did.

When Evie's brother visits after an injury, tension rises as they try to keep their relationship hidden from him. Will Harry and Evie be able to make him see that they were destined to be together? Or will everything shatter to pieces?

Chapter 1: A Massive Problem

HARRY

“Are you listening to me?” Evie shouted. “When Layson asked you to move in, I’m sure he didn’t expect you to leave all your underwear everywhere!”
She took a step closer as I gently caught her wrist just before she went to throw my underwear at me. She released her grip, and it fell to the floor.
Silence fell.
My heart was racing as a spark ran through me from the skin-to-skin contact. My thumb grazed against her wrist. She caught her breath as her lips parted.
Her shoulders rose high before slowly falling. My eyes flicked up to meet hers, and neither of us was able to look away. She was breathtaking. Like some Greek goddess, the way her skin glowed against her black hair.
I let out a breath, and my eyes drifted from the floor, trailing up over those bright-pink pajamas she was wearing. Pink was her color, and I’d never seen her wear anything else the whole time I’d known her. I’d really like to trace my lips over those sun-kissed thighs of hers…
But I’d just noticed the flush in her neck against her luminous skin as her eyes landed on my bare chest. I wondered if other things would make her blush like that?
I shouldn’t be looking at her like this or thinking those things, but it was getting harder not to notice that messy bun on the top of her head bobbing about when she was yelling about my underwear. I watched as a few strands of her silky, raven hair fell out over her face, and I wondered if it was as soft as it looked.
I met her mahogany eyes as they burned into mine, and I hadn’t noticed how close she was standing to me until that sweet cherry scent of hers flooded my system.
Damn.
I blew out a breath. This was going to be a massive problem.
She pulled her wrist free and, within seconds, had gone from my room.
Fuck. I let out a groan, rubbing my hands over my face again to try and fully wake up. I should not have been looking at her like that.
All I knew was that I was hungover, it was too early for this, and Evie Carter had already screamed my name.
I looked down at my underwear on the floor. Great. My underwear was a hot topic around this place at the moment. I should start selling it on eBay or something while it was famous. It was like no one had anything better to talk about than it.
Glancing over at my phone on the side table, I shook my head at the time. Seven a.m. It should be criminal to be awake at this time of morning on a Sunday. Even the birds hadn’t started chirping. Even they respected the peace on a Sunday.
I grabbed some joggers, hopping as I tried to pull them on quickly. I really didn’t want to be awake at this time of morning. All I wanted to do was sleep this hangover off, but my stomach started rumbling, which meant I needed some serious breakfast right now. That would surely help get rid of this headache.
As I walked into the kitchen, James sat at the table sipping a drink, and he glanced up at me. He shook his head, and I knew it was probably because of the state I was in last night when I got home.
“What?” I screwed my face at him.
He rose from the table. “You were a mess last night. You need to cut out these parties. You’ve been missing practice because of it.”
“I’ve missed two sessions. It’s no big deal.” I shrugged it off.
“It is when the scouts are coming.” I didn’t need a lecture from him right now with this hangover. “They’ll be at the Providence game. That’s one month, Harry. Sort yourself out.”
“You don’t need to worry about it.”
He gave me a look then walked out of the kitchen, leaving me alone. I let out a heavy breath, and my shoulders slumped back down.
My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I pulled it out, saw a text from my dad, and cleared the notification. Then I placed it back.
“Evie.” I smiled as she walked into the kitchen. “Let’s get breakfast. My treat.”
“No can do. I’m meeting Chad for breakfast,” Evie replied.
I looked over at her and noticed that bright flame she always had in her eyes had dimmed. That wasn’t like her; she was always so cheerful.
Chad. Evie’s boyfriend. Layson had only met him a handful of times before he moved to Toronto with Natasha and wasn’t a fan of him. In fact, I didn’t think he was a fan of anyone dating his sister.
Chad had been at the house a few times after James and I moved in, and I didn’t like him. He never laughed at any of my jokes. Everyone laughed at my jokes.
I let out a grumble as my phone started vibrating again, and I prayed it wasn’t my dad as I pulled it out of my pocket.
“Layson,” I said, answering the video call as it connected.
“Hey man, how is everything going there?” he replied.
“Trying to convince Evie to come to breakfast with me.” I wrapped my arm around her neck, pulling her into view of the camera.
“Why aren’t you going with Harry?” Layson asked.
“I’m meeting Chad, and I’ve got things to do.”
He screwed his face up. “Chad? I don’t like you dating him.”
“You don’t like me dating anyone,” she snapped back.
“Well, why do you think I asked Harry and James to move in with you? ’Cause I knew neither of them would try.”
I let out a nervous laugh as Evie pushed me off her. Layson would kill me with the way I looked at her this morning.
“You can’t tell me what to do,” she told him.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on her.” I tried to reassure him.
“I know I can trust you with her,” he said.
