Chase in the Moonlight
Book Two: A Bond Unbroken
AARYA
My heart hammered in my chest.
I was greedy for breath…
My lycan’s paws pounded hard against the grass, snapping twigs as I leaped over fallen trunks.
He won’t catch me.
I won’t let him.
I could hear his raspy panting right behind me. My muscles burned with every move forward, but I pushed myself faster and faster. I’d been training hard, but I knew his strength and power were superior to mine.
My front paws ached.
Push.
Go, Lycan! Why can’t you go any faster?
I can’t let my guard down. He’s gaining ground, and fast.
He’s so extraordinarily massive and powerful, but I want to give him a chase.
And this wasn’t training.
This was the real thing.
Shit! He’s catching up! He’ll eat me alive when he catches me!
The trees that were rushing past me vanished.
I ran into an open field.
The sweet breeze on my fur felt incredible.
Yes!
Run!
It was filled with endless flowers, glowing with a blue hue from the moonlight and stretching for miles in every direction.
This was a dangerous move. He can catch you. You’re exposed.
My heart expanded—both because it was so beautiful and also because there was nowhere to hide.
Anticipation had adrenaline flooding through my wolf veins.
I liked a challenge and the chance to test the boundaries.
I was too far away from the palace now to turn back.
It’s time.
Time to face my pursuer.
I skidded to a halt and turned to face the dark forest, shifting back into my naked human form.
I tensed, listening as the thundering sound of his paws approached like a tornado across a prairie.
My mind raced as I wondered…
What will he do when he catches me?
But before my imagination could go wild, a giant lycan leaped forward from the shadows right toward me.
It was huge and terrifying. If I were a weaker woman, I would’ve started screaming and running for my life.
But I stood my ground and smiled.
The wolf, its golden coat glinting in the moonlight’s luminescence, shifted into his human form. He took me into his muscular arms.
And I let him.
I stared up at Adonis’s eyes. Both of us were panting naked in the moonlight.
His form was magnificent, a fine sheen of sweat clinging to his flesh.
I looked down.
My God. What an incredible appendage.
His eyes glowed like orbs in the moon’s reflection, exciting me even more.
The thundering in my chest proved almost unbearable at the sight of him.
Now the majestic lycan had me right where he wanted me.
A chilly breeze swept the meadow.
He reined me in tightly to his hard, chiseled body.
His flesh was searing hot, like a furnace.
The only source of warmth I wanted and craved.
“You cold?” he asked breathlessly.
I smirked, my fingers tracing his ridged abs and making their way down to the deep V below. “Not for long,” I teased in a faint voice.
He tensed his abs as I let my fingers dance over his V.
Releasing a small pant, I couldn’t help myself and grabbed the base of his shaft.
He hardened in my grasp automatically, attuned to my touch.
His rod was primed with glistening slickness, making my heart patter. My lycan thrust powerfully into my hand while he closed his eyes in delicious torture.
Ever since all that crazy stuff had happened with Bradley and Hunter, things had cooled down at the palace…
Much to my delight, things had heated up between me and Adonis.
We’d been having sex like crazy every spare moment we had.
I couldn’t stop him. It was hard to keep any clothes on when he was around.
They seemed to melt away from me when they were on.
And at a certain point, sex whenever we wanted in the bedroom just didn’t cut it anymore.
We were wild and primal, after all.
I’d never felt so free with him.
We needed a little chase.
He groaned, his face twisted in pleasurable anguish as I stroked and tugged his manhood even faster. I could’ve made him cum right then if I wanted.
I loved having that level of power over him.
But no. I wanted this to last a little longer. I smiled through the shadows as an owl hooted in the trees.
I got down on my knees and played with him in my hands, teasing him.
“Please…,” he whispered. “Please, you’re taunting me.”
I smirked. “Say it.”
He growled. “Please, my queen.”
I slipped his member into the hot wetness of my mouth and moved my head up and down, working my tongue around it as if it were a lollipop. Sucking and devouring him. I watched as I took him inside my mouth.
In and out. In and out.
I had really gotten the hang of this those past couple of weeks. Lexi’s tips had helped.
Watching his face from below felt especially erotic as he ran his hands through the silky strands of my hair.
He whispered sweet nothings of ecstasy to me.
“So beautiful. You look perfect down there,” he growled. “Your mouth. It’s wonderful. So hot around my shaft. Right where it belongs.”
He tugged at my hair, moving me faster—and deeper—and I let him.
Gobbling him up, I allowed him to swell inside my mouth.
His thrusting now filled the back of my throat, almost making me scared, but I opened wider as his face contorted.
Somehow, his cock grew even more until it barely fit.
I pulled myself away to take a deep breath, but he didn’t waste a moment, growling and pushing himself on top of me so my back was flat on the soft grass.
He entered my soaking-wet core, providing sweet, sweet relief.
Whatever hope I had of inhaling a deep breath left as he filled me up—and then some.
His weight on top of me felt delicious. I loved him pounding into me.
Whimpering with the song of the surrounding owls brought forth just the right amount of primal in me.
“Adonis!” I cried out in pleasure, as loud as I wanted. There was no one around to hear. If I wanted to scream, I could have.
“Adonis, what?” He seized my neck, lightly squeezing, pumping me even harder. His aggression was a major turn-on, only making me more soaked.
“Adonis, my king.” I blurted out.
He grinned as he shifted my legs up to his shoulders so he could penetrate me deeper.
I dug into his muscular back with my nails on his skin. I hung on for dear life as he stroked me hard, switching up speeds. Each speed control was different but equally frenetic.
Normally, we tried to make sex last as long as possible, but in this position, I didn’t stand a chance.
He buried himself inside me, hitting the perfect spot over and over, and I moaned as the volcano of nerve endings bundling in my core could no longer take it.
Waves of intense pleasure rose through my core, bursting through my body, boiling over as I cried out, feeling him empty himself inside me at the same time.
We rocked together, slowing down at the same pace, each tiny movement feeling excruciatingly good.
He panted while I breathed hard.
He lay on top of me, making me feel safe under his weight.
His piercing blue eyes bore into mine as he kissed me over and over.
And it hit me all over again. I couldn’t believe I was actually mated to this man.
How the hell did I get so lucky?
He breathed in my scent, kissing my neck gently.
“I could almost fall asleep out here,” I said, looking past him, up at the millions of bright stars above us.
His hands were neatly curved behind his head, with me tucked under his arm.
His heartbeat was all I wanted to hear. Its steady rhythm made me calm.
Bliss. Looking into the deep violet of the sky with my mate felt like we’d always been.
“That isn’t very fitting for a queen,” he mentioned, looking down at me with a wry grin.
A post-sex drowsiness came over me, and the last thing in the world I wanted to do right now was move.
He noticed this and lifted me gently in his arms. “I’ll shift,” he breathed. “You can ride on my back. Relax.”
I smiled sleepily as I felt his smooth skin turn to fur. I slipped onto his back, half asleep as I held onto his coat while we made our way back slowly through the forest.

When I opened my eyes, I was back in the royal chamber, lying on our soft bed with rays of sunlight streaming through the blinds.
I guessed morning had arrived to pull me out of my drowsy slumber.
Adonis’s arm was curled possessively around my waist, reining me in tight toward him.
I could hear him breathing and enjoyed feeling his chest expanding.
I smiled across at him. It was always so peaceful waking up next to him.
It’s almost as if I didn’t know what it was like before him.
I was about to go back to return to the comfort of my sleep when an abrupt knock at the door made me shoot up.
Adonis stirred slightly, trapping me with his leg, to bring me into him.
“Who is that?” I whispered lightly.
“Ignore it, little one,” he muttered. “Back to sleep. It can’t be time for us to rise.”
“Maybe it’s important. We should see who it is.”
“Nothing more important than this…,” he said, his hand snaking down my waist, inching toward—
BANG BANG BANG!
They knocked again, even louder and more insistent this time. Adonis growled and sat up, looking especially handsome with his tousled, bedhead hair.
Throwing on a pair of jeans, he stormed toward the door, annoyed we were being interrupted in our cozy den.
“What the hell do you want?” he roared, opening the door without even thinking who might be on the other side.
I peeked over, curling the blankets up around my neck.
Who could be banging on the door with such force early in the morning?
I saw Councilman Harrison standing in the doorway, looking even older and more disheveled than I remembered.
Adonis stepped forward, and Harrison faked a smile as he scanned him with contempt.
“I said... what do you want, Harrison?”
“Well…,” he said, his voice nasally. “The Council and I have been requesting a meeting with you for weeks now.”
“I’ve been busy,” Adonis grunted, shoving his hands into his pockets.
The councilman eyed me in bed, and I drew the covers up as high as possible. I didn’t want the old pervert glimpsing my nip or anything. It was bad enough he’d shown up at the door. “I can see that,” he said.
“I’ll get right to it, then. You’ve found your mate. I’m glad to see you are happy. But... the kingdom expects certain things, Your Majesty. You have royal duties, which I’m sure you’re aware of.”
“Like what?” Adonis said, echoing my thoughts, not taking his hands out of his pockets.
“Well, like a Mating Ceremony. If you don’t get mated in one week, we have no choice but to consider you unfit to rule. You’re aware of the ruling, are you not?”
My eyes opened wide.
Is he being serious?
One week?
“What the hell are you talking about?” Adonis roared. “I’m the damn king. I decide when I want to have my mating ceremony! How can you come here and place demands? You’re merely advisors to me, not the other way around!”
“No need to be upset, Your Majesty,” Harrison sneered. He handed him an old piece of paper, pointing to it.
“It’s all right there, written in Section 35 of the Royal Decree. Goodbye, Your Majesty. See you in one week.”
Adonis slammed the door in his face and turned to me, a look of worry spreading across his face.
One week?
One week to plan the mating ceremony of our dreams? One week to get all of my friends and family together?
Impossible, and sheer madness.
That’s when I knew we were royally screwed.
