“My brother’s looking for some extra help. Someone who can cook and clean, help out around the house. And he’s rich, so he’ll pay well. I know you need money.”
Something in the tone of Miranda’s voice told me she was leaving something out, but I was at the end of my rope and she knew that.
We’ve discussed my predicament numerous times. She was aware of the debt I was in and my desperate need to swim free.
After placing a hot pan in the steamer, I pulled off my oven mitts and looked into her eyes across the glass casing that separated the food from me and the customers.
