SAM
That is oneâŠ
Tight.
Hairy.
Ass.
I was practically drooling as I watched the sexy-as-all-hell she-bear emerge from the water with a brook trout clamped firmly in her jaw.
The caramel-furred sex goddess tilted back her head, the fish squirming between her razor-sharp teeth. Then she swallowed.
God almighty!
It was a beautiful day on Forest Lake. Cotton-candy clouds dotted the sky above. The woods leading back to Bear Creek buzzed with life.
And the water was full of brook trout!
Dozens of themâhundreds, maybeâswam all around us, begging to become my dinner.
But I couldnât stop myself from staring bug-eyed at the she-bear. At the gap between her furry thighs.
I wanted to fill it.
The she-bear stopped fishing and watched me. She sniffed the air once, grunted, and then waded through the shallow water in my direction.
Then she shifted before me, bones twisting and popping. Fur receding into delicate skin.
Standing before me in the shallows was the most beautiful woman Iâd ever laid my bear eyes on.
Blonde hair that stirred in the gentle breeze. Curves in all the right places. And she was as naked as the day she was born.
Helen.
My wife.
My mate!
I shifted back to human and was as hard as Thorâs hammer in less than two seconds.
âI need you,â Helen said, pouting her ripe lips at me. âFuck me.â
My dick jerked in response.
I closed the distance between Helen and me, pulling her sexy body into mine, running my hands across her jaw, through her dripping, tangled hair, and down her spine. Giving her ass a squeeze, I brought my lips to hers.
Helen kissed me like sheâd never get the chance again.
âCome onâfuck me, baby,â Helen whispered into my ear. She reached down for my throbbing cock and started stroking it slowly.
âOh, God, HelenâŠâ I buried my face between her tits, squeezing them gently. I dragged my thumbs across her hardened nipples, watching them pucker for me.
Clamping my hands on her waist, I spun Helen around so that her ass was pressed firmly against my lightning rod. She cried out in surprise and delight, grinding against me.
Goosebumps pricked her cold, wet skin, but her delicious folds were burning hot!
I couldnât help myself.
Sucking on the faded mating mark on her neck, I drove into her hot, moist center, feeling her walls stretch around me.
Damn, that feels good!
Helen moaned, grabbing blindly for my ass and pulling my shaft even further inside her.
SPLASH!
A brook trout jumped from the water directly beside us. Then another.
I ignored the fish, rocking my hips forward and back again, building a rhythm as I pumped everything I had into my wife.
Unable to control myself, I thrust fast and frantic. I located Helenâs clit with my thumb, teasing it, feeling it bud beneath me.
âSam!â Helen moaned, just as something smacked me hard in the face.
A brook trout!
I swatted it away, slamming into Helenâs tight core even faster.
âSam, wake up!â she moaned, bouncing her ass on my cock as another fish flew past us.
Then, all at once, they were everywhere: dozens of trout flying from the water all around, barreling into us.
What the hell?
âSAAAAAAAM!â Helen screamed in pleasure, just as the biggest trout Iâd ever seen jumped from the water, coming straight for my face.
SMACK!
***
Jesus, that hurt!
I blinked my eyes a few times, feeling my cheekbone throb. Just as my vision came into focus, I saw Luke hovering over me, his hand winding up in the air for another blow.
âJesus! What the hell are you doing?â I caught his wrist.
âYou fainted.â Luke inched backward, giving me some room to breathe. I sat up, rubbing my cheek begrudgingly.
Fainted? I donât remember faintingâŠ
I glanced around my new house. We were in the middle of the foyer. Off somewhere in the kitchen, I thought I heard raised voices.
âEmma and I found ya passed out when we got back from the Buckhorn. And Helen wasââ
âHELEN!â My eyes practically popped from my head as reality hit me like a tractor.
Helenâs water had broken. Sheâd yelled at me to call the doctor. I was so scared, so overwhelmedâŠ
Screw that! My baby mama needs me!
I scrambled to my feet, feeling a little woozy from sitting up too fast. But I didnât care.
I sprinted into the kitchen high on adrenaline as Luke stumbled along behind me.
âWHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN HEâS GONE?â Emma was screaming into her phone, while my poor Helen was pacing by the table, holding her belly like it was gonna explode.
Her eyes were closed, and her face was practically purple as she took deep breaths.
âEmma!â Helen said. âYouâre drunk. Give me the phone.â
âHelen! Babe!â I exclaimed, rushing to her side while Emma continued to yell.
âOh, Sam,â Helen said in between sharp breaths. âThank God.â
âIs everything alright? Have the contractions started? Do youââ
Helen squeezed my hand. âIâm okay. Iâm just really trying not to freak the fuck out here, becauseââ
âTHATâS DOG SHIT!â Emma slurred. âWhy would the mountain lion go out of town when he knows sheâs due this week? NO, I WILL NOT HOLD!â
She made a face, muttering under her breath, âGod, Brittany just HAD to fuck that alligator one last time before he goes south for the winter. She would get these people to do something!â
âWe canât get ahold of Dr. Catamount,â Helen explained. âThe office said he went on some freakinâ hiking trip and hasnât gotten back. No one knows where he is!â
She doubled over, exhaling loudly.
Luke clambered over to us with a glass of water in his shaky hand. âHelen, do you need some more water?â
I noticed for the first time how bloodshot his eyes were.
Helen gave him a weak smile. âThank you.â
Luke sat the glass on the table beside her, next to four other cups that were all full, too.
At least the buzzed idiotâs trying to help.
âAlright, theyâre sending their other doctor,â Emma said suddenly, setting down her phone. âDr. Thorne, whoever that is.â
âHalle-fucking-lujah,â Helen moaned. She squeezed her eyes shut. âOwâSHIT! The contractions are starting again! How long is the doctor gonna be? I need a freakinâ epidural!â
âIâm sure Dr. Thorne will be here any minute, babe,â I said, trying to mask the panic in my voice. âLetâs get you somewhere comfortable in the meantime.â
âYeah⊠I wouldnât be so sure about that,â Luke said suddenly. He was standing in front of the sliding glass door, looking out into the backyard. âItâs really coming down out thereâthe roads were already a bitch when we drove back.â
Helen and I followed his gaze outside.
Shit!
The night was masked in flurries of snow, so thick that I could barely see past the back porch.
The first snowstorm of the year.
I knew as well as anyone how bad the lake-effect snow rocked our tiny town every year. No one would be going anywhere in this weather.
Which meantâŠ
Helen and I looked at each other. I suddenly felt faint again.
It was just me, my pregnant wife, and our two hammered best friends.
Someone had to deliver the cubs, and I knew exactly who that person was.
Oh God, oh God, oh GodâŠ
HELEN
âHee-hee-hoo-two-three-four!â Sam called. He was sitting beside me on the bed, gripping my hand so tightly it had lost all circulation. âYouâve got this babe! Keep going!â
âHee-heeâŠâ
Ow ow ow ow!
Motherfucker! Shit balls! Other curse words I canât think of!
The pain was like nothing Iâd ever felt before.
By some act of God, Sam and Luke had managed to get me up the stairs and into the master bedroom.
I just hope that the mental image of my horror-movie vagina wonât pop into Samâs brain every time we get into this bed in the futureâŠ
If I survive, that is!
God, Iâm burning up! How are all the windows already open?
And Jesus, Emma, how long does it take to get ice?
âAlright babe, umâŠâ Sam let go of my hand and reached for the baby book sitting on the nightstand.
Oh, sweet mercy.
I quickly took my hand back before he had the chance to squeeze the life out of it again.
Sam flipped furiously through the worn pages of the book, causing a few of them to fall out. âBreathe from your stomach.â
Breathe from my stomach?!
âMhm,â I mumbled between exhales, gritting my teeth.
âJust, um, breathe through the pain.â Sam continued scratching his head. He looked absolutely terrified. âOne-twoâŠâ
âOh my gawd, itâs hopeless!â I cried, cutting him off. âIâm going to die!â
Sam just sat there, speechless, the baby book shaking in his hands. He looked worse than I felt.
HOOT! HOOT! HOOT!
We both jumped as something huge swooped in from the open window, glided across the room, and landed on the edge of the bed.
What.
The actual.
Fuck?
A horned owl stared back at me with its massive, yellow eyes. In its talons was a brown leather satchel with a tiny red cross on the handle.
A medical bag!
The owl twisted its head to the side, and then it started to sprout limbs.
Sam and I watched in total shock as the owl shifted into a woman, several years older than us, with feathered brown hair and round eyes.
The naked lady got to her feet immediately, swept her hair back into a tight bun, and reached inside the bag for a white coat.
She put it on, although it left little to the imagination.
âYouâre not going to die, Helen,â said the owl shifterâDoctor Thorne, according to the name stitched into her coat. âHow far apart are the contractions coming?â
This chick is all business. And I was totes there for it.
âUm, about two minutes apart,â Sam replied. âTheyâre lasting about a minute.â
Dr. Thorne nodded. She pulled out some kind of measuring instrument and went to work examining my lady gardenâbut definitely not in a fun way. She inserted the instrument into my birth canal.
âAlright, Helen, it looks like youâre almost ready to push. Are you ready to meet your babies?â
Oh shit, itâs happening!
I nodded through the searing pain, more determined than ever.
Dr. Thorne smiled. âAlright, here we go. Deep breath inâŠâ
âHee-hee-FUUUUUUUUUUUââ
***
Theyâre so small, I thought, peering down into the tiniest, most perfect faces Iâd ever seen. I was lying in bed, wrapped in Samâs arms. I cradled both of my sleeping cubs against my chest.
Iâd never seen anything so beautiful.
Half me, half Sam.
A boy and a girl.
Caleb and Ashlynn.
Mom had always told me about the moment you first see your baby. How youâre just instantly connected to them. How you love them more than you knew was possible.
I still hadnât been prepared.
As I stared, fascinated, at Calebâs tiny, bald head, and Ashlynnâs shockingly thick hairâdark, like her fatherâsâI couldnât really fathom what I was feeling.
Iâd move the world for my cubs.
Caleb stirred, opening his tiny blue eyes to look at me. His little finger curled around mine. He smiled.
âSam, lookâŠâ I nudged my hubby, who was staring at sleeping Ashlynn like she was an alien species.
âHeâs perfect, babe,â Sam murmured. He kissed me softly on the top of my head.
âDo you want to hold him?â I asked.
âUm⊠yeah, sure.â
I uncurled Calebâs finger from mine and gently passed him off to Sam.
Sam held our baby boy at an armâs length at first, uncertainly, then eventually eased up and cradled him against his chest. âHeâs so smallâŠâ
There was a light knock on the door, and Dr. Thorne popped her head in. âIâm headed back out⊠do you two need anything from me before I go?â
âNo, thank you, Doctor,â I replied. âYou were a lifesaver.â
She smiled. âAlways happy to help. Iâve left my phone number on the kitchen counter in case you need anything. Although Dr. Catamount should be in touchâŠâ
âThank you. Really,â Sam replied.
Dr. Thorne winked. âOh, and tell your friend Brittany I said hello.â
She closed the door gently.
I snorted. Youâve got to be kiddingâŠ
âIâm so proud of you, Helen,â Sam said suddenly, looking up from Caleb. âYou were so brave.â
âYou helped,â I beamed.
âApart from the fainting, and the shitty baby book adviceâŠ,â he chuckled.
âI wouldnât have changed a thing.â I kissed the tip of his nose.
And⊠it was true.
There was nothing in the world that could dampen the love and gratitude I felt. Or the excitement about getting to know our cubs.
Especially around Christmasâmy absolute favorite time of the year!
And here, in Bear Creek, surrounded by my little family, I knew in my gut that this year would be one for the books⊠as long as no one else tried to kill us.
Deck the fucking halls!
Itâs going to be the best Christmas EVER!
