“No! Knee.” He taps his knee again, and I roll my eyes. Wrapping his arms around my waist, he lays his head down on my shoulder, and I’m not sure if I feel comfortable with him or not.
I am relaxing, but I know what he did, and I don’t support killers. Kissing me on the cheek, he inhales my hair, and I look over at Blake, confused.
Blake shrugs his shoulders, looking more lost than I am. Ian and Cody nod in agreement, and Leon clears his throat.
“You two look great together.”
“No, we don’t.” I narrow my eyes, and we hear the front door open. Turning, Kai smiles as his parents enter the house.
“You all having a good night, kids?” his dad says, and smirks down at me sitting on Kai’s knee. “That’s my boy. Right, me and my men have shit to sort out, so I expect to see none of your friends in the basement.”
“You won’t, Dad. They’re all out of their minds.” His dad nods his head in agreement, and another man walks over with black hair and green eyes.
“Having fun, kid?” he asks Kai, and he nods his head again. “Yeah, where’s Hazel?”
“At home. Have a good night.” Walking away, we hear his dad shout over to his mom, “Rebecca, get ready, we have an arrangement in”—he checks his watch—“ten minutes.”
Rebecca runs up the stairs, and I stare over my shoulder at Kai who shrugs his shoulders.
“Don’t ask.”
I nod my head, and we keep on playing the game of Drunk Jenga. Each time it comes to Kai’s turn, he picks me to do something, and I am starting to become tired of it.
“I would appreciate it if you would stop picking me!” I demand, feeling frustrated.
“It’s more fun.” Groaning out, I lean my head back on his shoulder. It’s not as if I can move or go anywhere because he has had his arms wrapped around me for at least an hour now.
I’ve had about seven drinks, and I still have four hours left where I have to be in a relationship with him. I start to feel tired after half an hour and rub my eyes.
“I better be going,” I tell Kai, smiling over my shoulder, and he shakes his head no.
“I’m going home, Kai,” I state, and he shakes his head again.
“You’re still in a relationship with me. If you were my girl, I wouldn’t allow you to go home. The state that you are in isn’t safe. I will take you to my room, and you can sleep in there.”
I stare at Blake with wide eyes, begging for him to help me get out of this situation.
“Yeah. I’ll make sure she gets home safe,” Blake defends me, and Kai refuses.
“No. I’m only doing what I would usually do. As of right now, Ruby is my girl, and I will treat her the exact same way as I would my own girl in real life. Come on, let’s go up.”
Pushing to stand up, he lifts both mine and his weight and takes my hand in his. How is he that strong? Walking away from the group, he guides me up three flights of stairs until we get to the top floor.
Opening the door, I am welcomed to a lobby area that leads to an open living area, and a wall separates his bedroom from his living room. Guiding me to his room, he walks to his bed and pulls back the sheets.
“Get in,” he tells me, and I climb into the bed.
He slides in the other side, and there’s a massive space in between us until he grabs my waist and wraps his left arm underneath my head, and his right hand holds my stomach, his forearm touching my side.
I lie still with my eyes closed, unsure of what to do. I only have three and a half hours left until I can leave. I feel him shuffle underneath the blankets and then feel his knees push into the back of my knees.
His legs touch mine. He’s taken the dress off! He pulls the sleeve of his leather jacket off my arm, and I keep the other one on.
“You will be uncomfortable if you keep that on. It gets hot!”
I remove the other sleeve, and he launches the jacket off the bed, squeezing me in against his body more. What do I do now? He’s left everyone downstairs and gone to bed!
“Kai,” I whisper.
“Mhm,” he replies, and I tap his arm.
“What?” Clearing his throat, he looks over my shoulder.
“Everyone’s still downstairs.”
“They know to behave. My dad’s men are everywhere, and they know what my dad will do if they step out of line. Ian’s keeping his eye on everyone.”
“What will he do?”
“What won’t he do, you should be asking.” He lays his head back down on the pillow. “You should be getting some sleep.”
Yeah, about that. I’m kind of in your bed with you, and I’m not exactly feeling comfortable about that. I am wearing only your top, your crotch is touching my ass cheeks, your arms are wrapped around me.
And we aren’t in a relationship, I’m staying over the night, and I don’t even know you. Sorry if I’m not feeling it!
I wake up five hours later and struggle out of his arms. Running around, I collect my dress and heels, throwing them on and making my way out of his now-empty house until I’m met with closed gates.
Fuck my life! Come on, can you give me a break? I enter the house again with my head down. I need to get out of here.
Searching around for an intercom, I leap back when Rebecca presents herself at the bottom of the stairs in a nightgown. Smiling, I wave at her, clumsily stumbling on my feet.
“Good morning.” She crosses her arms sleepily, and I wait for her to give me a response. She looks irritated, hair up in a bun, her eyes sleepy, staring at me the same way teachers do when I show up for college late.
I smile with my eyes widened, standing on the spot with my hands connected in front of my stomach. I am ashamed of myself. Is this what the walk of shame feels like?
