I Didn't Belong to You 2: I Didn't Believe In Us

Chapter 4

JULIET

Kristen and Will had a wonderful wedding. I loved their vows as they recited how they met each other.

Even Finn surprised me when he announced that he wanted to celebrate their union with everyone once they returned from Vegas.

We were all happy for them.

Well, not quite everyone. Lauren wasn’t keen on that idea. She still fantasized about Finn. I hoped that one day, she would find someone to love. She deserved to be happy as well.

“Lauren, I think I did something stupid last night,” I said as I bit my nails.

She frowned. “What happened last night?”

I let go of my nails to bite my lower lip instead. “After you all left the club, I stayed behind. I think I got a little too much to drink and one thing led to another…uhmm…

“Let’s just say that this morning, I didn’t wake up alone. I had a naked man beside me.”

Lauren laughed.

“It’s not funny,” I said, annoyed. “There was a naked man beside me this morning,” I repeated.

“What did you just say?” Travis stood beside us, scowling.

Shit. Did Travis hear our conversation?

“Can you believe that? Juliet over here,” Lauren said, pointing at me with her thumb, “had a one-night stand with a stranger.”

I gasped.

Can’t she keep her mouth shut?

“His name is Luc,” I said without thinking.

“Luc, huh.” Lauren wiggled her eyebrows up and down. “Was he even good?”

I didn’t answer and stormed away. I didn’t want to embarrass myself any further.

What was up with Lauren, lately?

“Juliet!” Travis shouted, following me.

“Leave me alone!” I knew it was childish, but I felt so embarrassed. He was the last person I wanted to find out about it.

“Did you truly sleep with that guy last night?” Travis kept his pace behind me.

Does he care? Why?

I turned around, irritated by him. How could he ask me such a thing? He was no better. He had slept with every boob that had passed his way.

Except for you. A little voice inside my head reminded me.

This was so not the point!

Keep telling yourself this. At the end of the day, you will probably believe it.

“Ugh! I can’t believe you listened to my private conversation with Lauren. And what is it to you, huh? Don’t deny that you slept with that skank from yesterday,” I snapped.

Travis grabbed my arm. “Did you sleep with him because of that?”

I retracted my arm from his grip. “The world doesn’t revolve around you, Travis. I don’t know why you are acting like this. We aren’t even together, so what’s your problem?”

“Tch, you are right. Why do I even bother? Go and sleep with whoever you want. See if I care,” Travis said before he left.

As he walked away, I realized that his words had hurt me more than they should have.

I felt so embarrassed to have created such a scene in front of everyone. I couldn’t stand their judgments, and so, I decided to hide in the bathroom like a coward.

I grabbed some toilet paper to wipe away the tears that flowed down my cheeks.

“Juliet, are you okay?” I heard Jamie’s voice behind me.

I sniffed. “Yes, I’m fine. Oh my God, I hope we didn’t make a scene?”

“Look, about Travis—”

“It’s nothing to talk about… Uhm, I got to go. Thank you for checking up on me,” I said quickly.

I didn’t want to hear about Travis and his excuse. All I wanted was to forget about him.

I stepped outside the bathroom, leaving Jamie alone in there. As I looked ahead, I saw Travis talking to one of the waitresses.

Why can’t I forget about him already? Ugh!

I wanted so badly to go over there and punch him, even though I wasn’t a violent person.

“Are you okay?” Lauren asked me.

“Terrific!” I answered, annoyed. I was still mad at her because of what happened earlier.

“You stupid bitch! You couldn’t let it go, could you?” I heard someone shouting in a crowd.

The music stopped. We looked at the person who had walked in.

“Nathalie? What are you doing here?” Finn asked as he stepped in front of Jamie, shielding her.

“I don’t want to talk to you… I want to talk to that bitch.” She pointed at Jamie.

Will said, “I already called security. I think it would be best if you—”

Nathalie pulled a gun from her purse. “I said I want to talk to her.”

Everyone gasped.

I put my hand over my mouth. What is she doing? I was surprised when I saw Jamie pass Finn.

“What is it that you want?” she asked Nathalie.

“For you to die!” It was the only thing she said before I heard a loud shot.

I froze in place as I saw Jamie’s body hit the floor.

I couldn’t believe what had just happened. We were all gathered to celebrate a wedding, but it all fell apart with a snap of a finger.

At the hospital, I was still shaken up.

With great relief, we learned that Jamie didn’t need surgery; she would be fine as the bullet had grazed her hip and she only needed a couple of stitches.

Finn went to see Jamie after the doctor gave us the news about her.

I was tired and wished for the day to be over when Travis sat beside me. “J, do you need a drive back to the hotel?”

I knew he was sincere. With how the night had ended, what happened between us was forgotten. I didn’t have the strength to be still mad at him.

I gave him a genuine smile. “Yes, Travis. I would appreciate it. Thank you.”
