Book 4: It all started with us
KRISTEN
“Hello, my little mushroom.” I lifted my son in my arms, and he kept crying as I sat in the rocking chair. “You can’t sleep.” I left a kiss on his little head.
“Are you hungry? Do you want to eat?”
I took off my shirt to breastfeed my beautiful baby.
I caressed his forehead with the tip of my finger while he drank his milk.
The door opened as Will stepped inside. “Everything okay in here?”
“Yes, everything is perfectly fine.” I smiled at my husband.
Will stayed with us for a few minutes, then left so our baby could finish eating.
“Hey, Cody. Do you want me to tell you how I met your father while you eat?”
About ten years ago:
It had been eleven years now since the last time I saw my father.
Yesterday had been my birthday. I don’t know why, but I hoped he would call or even send me a postcard. As per usual, I got nothing from him.
Even after all these years, I still wondered what made him leave us like that.
While I was deep in my thoughts, Juliet and Lauren came to join me. My curiosity got the better of me when I heard Juliet mumble something to my cousin.
I looked at Lauren, and she was ogling someone.
Who was she looking at? I had my suspicions, but I just wanted to make sure.
As I was looking, someone else caught my eye. He was incredibly handsome. I wonder why I never saw him before, or maybe I had but never noticed.
He had blond hair and a scruffy beard. Even from where I stood, I could tell he had gray eyes.
I didn’t know why I felt so drawn to him.
“Can you stop staring at him?” Juliet was irritated with Lauren. “For Pete’s sake, not you too, Kristen!”
What did I do? I would have asked her if I hadn’t been so distracted by him.
The thing that surprised me the most was that he was looking at me as much as I did him. The more I glanced his way, the more I felt my face heat up.
My eyes widened as I saw him walk toward me. “Hey, gorgeous. My name is Will Harrison. What’s yours?”
What? Is he talking to me?
I couldn’t look at him. I hid my face behind the book I was holding. “Umm…Kristen…Kristen Shepherd.”
“Hey, Harrison, who’s the boy talking to your sister?” the guy with him wondered.
I know his name was Finn Campbell. Lauren never shut up about him. She had a massive crush on him.
“Oh, that’s my little brother, Michael,” Juliet informed them. “Don’t worry. He’s harmless.”
Finn kept his eye on them, especially her. “I have to go. Nathalie is waiting on me. See you later, Harrison.”
Will nodded without taking his eyes off me.
“We have to go, too,” Juliet said out of the blue. “See you later, Kristen!”
The way she said my name sounded like she expected something to happen to me.
“Where are we going?” my cousin asked before they walked away. It looked more like Juliet was dragging Lauren around.
Personally, I didn’t care where they were going. For some reason, I wanted to spend more time with Will.
“I know it’s sudden, but would you mind if I kissed you, gorgeous?” Will searched my eyes to see my reaction.
It caught me off guard. I never thought a man like him would want to kiss someone like me.
I surprised myself as I nodded my head, my eyes falling on his lips.
Will’s smile was broad, sending shivers down my spine.
He rested one hand on my cheek, giving me butterflies. We focused on each other, and the rest of the world blurred around us. Our faces were so close that I could feel his nose against mine.
Instantly, I licked my lips to moisten them. Will plunged at my lips to catch them with his. I parted my mouth, deepening our kiss. It was sweet and subtle.
Unfortunately, we had to part as we needed air to breathe and my lips were swollen.
I had my first kiss with someone as handsome as him. I couldn’t ask for it to be more perfect.
“Fuck! That’s what I call a damn kiss,” Will let out.
My cheeks flushed, showing how shy I was.
Will brushed a lock of hair behind my ear. “I hope in the future you’ll let me kiss you again.”
I nodded, as I wanted this to happen again.
“Why are you standing there?” The tone of his voice changed. It became more authoritarian for some reason.
He wasn’t talking to me, though. A blonde girl stood near him.
“Jamie, I asked you a question,” he insisted.
“Did you forget you’re the one who has to bring me home? Mom and Dad asked you this morning.” She rolled her eyes at him.
He let out a frustrated sigh. “Give me five minutes, okay?”
Her eyes landed on me and then back at her brother. “Okay, but you owe me big time.”
Jamie walked away, giving us some privacy.
“Sorry about that. That was my little sister, Jamie.” Will cleared his throat.
“I was wondering if you could give me your phone number. I would really like to call you, so I can ask you on a proper date.”
I bit my lip nervously as I wrote my phone number on a piece of paper.
“Thank you, gorgeous. I will definitely call you,” he said after I gave him the piece of paper.
He kissed me one more time before he left with his sister.
I hope he will call me.
I would be disappointed if this turned out to be a prank or something.
Will turned his head in my direction as I smiled like a fool.
I stood in the same place, keeping my eyes on him until he disappeared from my view.
I can’t wait to see him again, I shouted in my head.
I just met him, and I already felt a connection with him.
I wondered what the future held for us.
