REYNA
Had my eyes deceived me?
I sure fucking hope so.
I couldnât have Eve breathing down my neck again. There was still tension between us from the last time Snow had showed up at a party uninvited.
But even more concerning was that it wasnât safe for herâor anyone for that matterâto be out alone in Lumen with a killer on the loose.
I opened the front door and looked outside, but I didnât see any sign of Snow.
âTrying to leave your own party?â a deep voice asked as I felt someone brush up behind me.
I jumped and turned around to see the hot guy from the kitchen giving me a cocky grin.
âUm, no, I just thought I saw⊠Never mind,â I said, closing the door.
âGood. Because Iâve been wanting to talk to you all night,â he said, placing his arm next to my head and boxing me in.
âYouâŠyou were?â I asked, skeptical.
âOf course, who wouldnât want to get to know a girl like you?â His eyes sparkled as he leaned in.
I ducked underneath him and turned around, happy to have some breathing room. âWhat kind of girl do you think I am?â I asked suspiciously.
âOne whoâs way too cool for me,â he said, sitting on the couch and pulling me down next to him.
This boy didnât miss a beat. He was too fucking smooth.
Which was exactly why I questioned everything that came out of his mouth.
He grabbed a stray bottle of wine and poured some into an empty cup for me. âHope you like red,â he said, handing me the solo cup.
âYouâre a smooth talkerâŠumâŠwait, whatâs your name?â I asked, realizing I was actually a little tipsy.
âLucas,â he said, taking my hand and stroking it. âI already know youâre Reyna. Itâs your party after all.â
âThis is really more my sisterâs party than mine,â I said, sipping the wine. âIâm not usually into big parties.â
âYeah, me neither,â he said, his hand wandering up my thigh.
Yeah right. This guy hasnât missed a party since he left his motherâs womb.
I politely pushed his hand off my leg, even though the feeling excited me a bit.
âDo you wanna get away from this crowd and go somewhere moreâŠprivate?â he asked, his arm now wrapped around my shoulder.
I didnât know if it was because I was a virgin, or if this guy just seemed inauthentic, but I wasnât sure if I was ready to go somewhere more private with him.
I looked across the room. Anya stood between two boys, flirting like it was second nature. It was so easy for her.
She was so outgoing. She never let anything hold her back.
So why was I holding myself back? What was I waiting for?
Lucas was about as hot as they came.
When his hand drifted back to my thigh, I didnât push it away. Instead, I placed my own on his bicep.
âSo, uh, basketball,â I said awkwardly. âDo you guys shift at all, orâŠâ
Lucas laughed and stood up, pulling me to my feet. âLetâs find an empty bedroom.â
This house was huge, so there were plenty. We walked upstairs and found the first available room. He flung me inside, up against the wall, his tongue roughly pushing past my lips.
It wasnât the best kiss, but I didnât have much to compare it with.
The light of the moon streamed through the open curtains of the guest bedroom. I stared at Lucasâ ripped muscles, which showed through his tight, white t-shirt.
Lucas panted heavily as he pulled off his shirt and pressed my hand against his washboard abs.
He led my hand down his stomach until it reached the bulge in his pants. He was already hard.
I wondered if he was so horny because he was a typical teenage werewolf, or because there was some sort of weird off-season Haze happening.
The way that he eyed and pawed at me so hungrily made me think it was the latter.
But the way Lucasâ fingers traced my nipples was soon derailing my train of thoughtâŠ
His hand was suddenly up my skirt, sliding between my legs.
âLucas, waitâŠâ I said, starting to have second thoughts.
âReyna, donât be a tease. Iâm horny as hell. It must be the full moon or something because I have to have you right now,â he said, gripping me tightly.
So he was feeling something out of the ordinaryâŠ
âI just⊠I donât know if Iâm ready for that,â I said nervously.
âOh, youâre a virgin? Thatâs no problem,â he said with a grin. âIâll break you in.â
I wanted to be repulsed by his words, but I was feeling a bit strange myself.
Do half-vampires get hazed?
Before I could process that thought, he was on his knees, kissing just underneath my navel.
He pushed me onto the bed, and I let him slide my panties down to my ankles.
I felt exposed, and the cold air made me both uncomfortable and excited.
As his lips trailed down, I felt his tongue licking every inch of me.
Oh my God, it feels so warm and soft.
I held onto his hair, but I couldnât decide if I wanted to hold him there or pull him away.
My mind raced back and forth between being into this and regretting it, butâŠ
It feels so fucking good.
When Lucas unzipped his pants and crawled on top of me, however, I suddenly knew exactly where I stood on the matter.
âLucas, stop,â I said, as he pressed against me and kissed my neck, ignoring me.
âI said⊠Stop!â I pushed Lucas hard, and he flew off me and tumbled onto the ground, looking startled.
Damn, I guess that training with Eve is paying off.
âYou donât have to be such a frigid bitch about it,â he said, sulking.
If he wants a bitch, Iâll show him a bitch.
I was about to start cussing him out whenâŠ
CRASH!
A loud commotion downstairs followed by several screams and shouting sent a surge of dread through my body.
Something slammed against the floor beneath my feet.
âSTOP IT! PLEASE!â I heard Anya scream.
I pulled my panties back up, pushed past Lucas, and ran down the stairs two at a time.
When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I saw Snow in the middle of the living room, holding her head. But âliving roomâ was a name that no longer appliedâŠ
It was a death chamber.
There were two bodies on either side of Snow. Both were torn apart, gore oozing everywhere.
Lucas ran up behind me. He shifted, his ferocious wolf lunging toward Snowâ
âNOOOOOOO!â I cried.
SPLAT!
Lucasâ stomach burst open in mid-air. A shower of blood and guts sprayed across the room.
I covered my mouth in horror and disgust, frightened by the sickening display of violence.
âSnow, please donât do this!â Anya screamed, tears spilling down her face.
Snow continued to sit in the middle of the room, clutching her head, surrounded by carnage. It looked like her powers were out of control.
Anya was suddenly swept off her feet and pulled across the room by an unseen force.
âSNOW, STOP!â I shouted as I ran toward her.
Snowâs head shot up. She looked horrified as she watched Anya pulled across the room.
Only, Anya wasnât being pulled toward SnowâŠ
âNO! NO KILL!â Snow screamed, her eyes beginning to glow.
Anya was floating in the air, grasping at her neck as if she was being strangled.
Snow clapped her hands together, and a wave of light emitted from her body and washed over the entire room.
All the lightbulbs in the room shattered, but the light from Snowâs body was blinding.
As her light dimmed and the room returned to normal, Anya fell to the floor, gasping for air.
And I saw the truth about what was really behind the murders.
Illuminated by the moonlight was a pale man with wiry black hair and sharp fangs extending from his bloody mouth.
A vampyre!
He was camouflaging himself with some kind of cloaking ability similar to Eveâs.
Snow had revealed it with her powers.
Blood ran down his chin as he bared his fangs at me.
âWhoâs next?â he asked, licking the blood on his lips and flicking his tongue at me. âMy lust for blood cannot be satisfied! I need more! MORE!â
He looked absolutely deranged.
I didnât know much about vampyres, but I could tell that this wasnât normal. He was acting erratic, unhinged, insatiableâŠ
Was thisâthe Haze?
Could it be that in the same way the Haze made werewolves lust more intensely for sex, it made this vampyre lust more intensely for blood?
But this was no normal Haze.
The Haze might amplify shit, but it didnât make you go crazy and murder a bunch of teenagers.
âI need to fucking bite something in half!â the vampyre screeched, locking his eyes on me. His entire body shook as he stalked toward me.
This Hazed vampyre had an unquenchable thirst for blood.
And it looked like I was just his type.
