Chapter 3

“How did you find me?” she questions him as they meander through the forest behind the apartments. There’s no clear path, but the alpha navigates with ease.

“Do you have another place to hide?” he retorts. She grimaces, disliking when logic is used against her.

“What did you want to talk about, Alpha?” she inquires, then rethinks her question. “Actually, do you have a name? Everyone just calls you Alpha. I don’t think I’ve ever heard your real name,” she confesses.

“We haven’t known each other for long,” he replies, a hint of amusement in his voice.

“No, you haven’t known me for long. I’ve been observing your pack for quite some time. In fact, the real twist is, I’m the one who made Ash alpha!” She chuckles.

“You can’t make someone an alpha. They just are,” he laughs back. He clearly thinks she’s lost her mind. She groans at the thought of having to prove him wrong. In the world of wolves, bloodlines mean everything.

“Can’t make an alpha, doesn’t he know who we are?” Pride echoes in her mind.

She rolls her shoulders and cracks her knuckles, grabbing his shirt collar and forcing him to his knees with her magic. His amusement fades, replaced by anger as he struggles against her. She licks her lips.

“For someone who talks about what an alpha is or isn’t, you certainly aren’t, are you?” Her grin is wild. “For all your posturing, you’re just a regular wolf. I wonder what chaos would ensue if the pack found out?”

He snarls and fights harder, only to be subdued by a simple flick of her pinky.

“I told you. More power in my pinky, pup.” Sensing him trying to use the pack bond, she cuts it off. “Whoops, that would’ve ruined the fun.”

“Did you come here to destroy my pack?” He’s a mess of snarls and snaps, on the verge of shifting.

“I’m going to change your bloodline,” she replies, her voice raspy. The power surging through her is intoxicating. The knowledge that she could kill him instantly or elevate him to unimaginable power excites her.

She forces his lips onto hers, narrowly avoiding a bite as she laughs. She yanks his hair back, exposing his throat, then sinks her teeth in, so deep that blood trickles down his shirt from her mouth. She’s simultaneously drawn to and repulsed by the idea of bathing in it. The metallic liquid burns as she swallows.

“Can I borrow this?” She giggles, slicing her arm open with his clawed finger. She licks the blood from the wound, watching it heal with a giddy feeling, before kissing him roughly and spitting the blood into his mouth. He gags and tries to spit it out, but she covers his nose and mouth, leaving him no choice.

“Be a good boy and swallow,” she coos. Drunk on power, she slumps against him, draping herself over him inappropriately once she’s sure he has swallowed.

“Now you’re going to shift for me, big boy,” she purrs, tracing his lips and laughing manically as she forces the change on him. His bones crack painfully as he throws her off, and she rolls across the ground, landing a few feet away and laughing as if it’s the funniest thing she’s ever seen.

His wolf form is massive and deep brown, and she feels an urge to pet his fluffy head. His hackles rise and he crouches low as she approaches. She forces him onto his belly in submission and pats his head, grinning at the softness of his fur.

With a wave of her hand, he shifts back. His scream would’ve echoed through the forest if not for the hand she clamps over his mouth like steel. For ten minutes, she forces the change on him, flipping him back and forth between human and wolf until his head is spinning and his body aches. He wants to rip her apart. He craves the taste of her blood he’d rejected earlier.

“I’m doing you a favor,” she smiles, one hand playing with his stomach muscles, the other gripping his torn clothes. She crawls up his body. He’s too exhausted to resist. He flinches when she licks the remaining blood from his throat and chest, sucking it from her fingertips. It vaguely reminds him of when his mother would groom him as a pup, only there was less blood and pain, more fur.

The scent of her arousal is thick in the air. It doesn’t surprise him when she kisses him again. It’s almost sad.

“Sorry to put you through that, but I promise this is the fun part!” she tells him, her eyes sparkling. “You can’t fight me anymore, so now it won’t hurt,” she promises, nipping his ear before soothing it with her tongue.

She sits up on his lower stomach and her fingers slide up his chest slowly, stopping just above his heart. Her fingers sink in, sliding through his flesh like butter and when she grips his heart, he knows this is the end.

A minute later, he cracks an eye open, curious as to why she hasn’t killed him yet. He can feel his strength returning. There’s an intense look of concentration on her face as she pours magic into his heart. He can see the line of it flowing from her veins and into his chest like the soft purple glow of the sky in the morning. Gone is the erratic laughter and manic arousal. It seems like the life is being sucked out of her.

Sweat beads her forehead and her body begins to tremble. She can’t pour too much in at once or his heart would explode—literally. Her high comes down as the magic leaves her and she feels drained. Her alpha’s form fills out beneath her, she can feel the muscles thicken into cords and the raw power emanating from him is palpable in the air.
Now he is an alpha.

She pulls her hand from his chest, closing the hole with magic as she goes, and collapses onto him, her arms shaking so badly she can’t hold herself up. He catches her and cradles her gently, in awe at such a display. He feels completely changed. It’s like his very DNA has been replaced with that of a being on a whole new level from what he was previously. Is this really what it is to be an alpha?

“I’ll take her,” the voice of his beta, Ryder, pipes up.

“How long have you been here?”

“Got here a little before she started dry humping you and playing operation with your heart,” he comments dryly. “I thought I was going to have to kill her,” he adds in a whisper.

“To be honest, I’m not entirely sure you could have,” the alpha admits. “We should bring her home.”
