Fight and Protect

Alpha Alex

Alpha Hawk and I had a conversation about our defenses recently. The howl from Portland was the alarm we all dreaded. “Ruth, take the kids to the bunker,” I instructed her.

“Alex, promise me you’ll be safe.” Ruth’s hands cradled my face, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears in the light. We discovered she was pregnant just yesterday, but we hadn’t shared the news with anyone yet.

“I’ll reach out to Alice; hopefully, she can hear me from her location.” Our bond had deepened, united by our shared goal to protect our packs.

I gave her a swift kiss, time was of the essence. “Attention. All children, head to the bunker. Luna will guide you. Men, it’s time.” I sent out a pack-wide message. “~Spread out. We don’t know their numbers.~” My aim was to keep them away from the main pack house and grounds.

Everything unfolded in a matter of seconds. Unfamiliar wolves, not part of Draven’s pack, attacked us. I transformed along with the others, ready to fight.

The pounding of paws on the ground sent a wave of panic through me. There were more of them than we anticipated. The first wolf lunged at me, and my wolf Koga retaliated, his claws slashing as they made contact. We rolled on the ground, and Koga quickly got back on his feet.

Alpha Hawk is returning from Warden Warwick, but Luna is sending reinforcements,” Alice’s voice echoed in my mind, giving Koga and me the extra strength to face the next wolf.

As another wolf charged at us, the one Koga had taken down was getting back up. Blood coursed through our veins and Koga bared his teeth, growling at the approaching wolf.

His fur stood on end and he dug his claws into the ground for leverage, saliva dripping from his mouth. Two wolves were now attacking us. “Ethan, where are you?” I reached out to him.

Holding my own by the lake. The humans have fled.” He responded.

Reinforcements should arrive any moment.” I replied as Koga lunged at an incoming wolf. I had asked Ruth to contact the Blue Moon Pack once she was safe, as Alice’s mind-link couldn’t reach that far.

These wolves were strangers to me, clearly not from our part of the county. Koga lashed out with his hind legs and clamped his jaws around one wolf’s throat as they attacked him. We rolled around on the ground. Koga growled, tightening his grip around the wolf’s throat.

Should I break his neck?” Koga grunted, his breath coming out in heavy snorts.

“Rip it off!” I commanded. “These wolves are here to annihilate us and our pack. We leave no survivors.

The other wolf halted its attack when the sound of crunching bones made it pause. Then Koga tore the head off. Fur hung from Koga’s hind leg, but the wound wasn’t severe. Blood dripping from his mouth, Koga snarled and launched himself at the other wolf.

We collided mid-air. Koga, being larger and heavier, used his hind legs to send the other wolf crashing into a tree. Another wolf joined the fray, and I was once again up against two. They kept coming.

This one was rough, blood smeared across its face and a tooth missing. Its eyes glowed a deep amber as it sized me up. Its mottled fur reeked of rotting wood and whiskey, a scent that would have repelled me if I were a female looking for a mate. Koga had thrown the other wolf with such force that it was winded, but it was getting back up. They were obviously strategizing on how to take me down, or perhaps calling for more backup. Koga sneered at the beast. We weren’t about to let any intruders destroy our pack.

Howls echoed from several directions, and Tao, along with several others, rushed in to assist us. Thank God for them. These two wolves didn’t stand a chance with more of us on our side.

Together, we took them down. As more wolves approached, we tore them apart, ripping their heads off to ensure they wouldn’t return.

I reached out to the rest of my pack to check on everyone. The battle was still raging, and I was worried about my pack. But when I heard that there were several injuries but no deaths so far, I felt a wave of relief.

Sebastian!” Alice’s voice rang out in my mind. “~We are under attack by Draven!~” We exchanged a glance, and something about this whole situation felt off.

Tao let out a howl and took off. I followed him, calling for any available members of my pack to join us. The attack on my pack had been a diversion for what was happening to the Greystone Ridge Pack. “Alpha Dekota has sent several from the Blue Moon Pack to assist.” Ruth’s voice echoed in my mind.

I couldn’t begin to imagine what Sebastian was going through. All I could do was offer my support, just as he had done for my pack. Hawk was on his way back, but I didn’t know how long he would take.

After all the effort we had put into establishing the pack alliance, which now included over seven packs in this county. The strength came from Alice, and Akasha obviously had a plan to weaken that.

Luna Star

They attacked from the north. Even though I had sent some of our men to assist Alpha Alex, I kept enough back to guard our own pack. Max and Ella began to cry, picking up on my anxiety.

“Hush, Daddy will be home soon.” I picked up Ella first, securing her in the carry holdall, then placed Max next to her. “We’re going to hide, okay?” I whispered to them. The holdall was designed for me to carry them both in case I needed to transform.

“Are you ready?” Alice appeared in the doorway with Nox. “Hawk is about thirty minutes away, and Sebastian is returning with Alpha Alex.” She offered a reassuring smile. Her ability to communicate with other alphas had been instrumental in building the alliance between our packs.

“But we don’t have thirty minutes, do we?” I swallowed hard as a loud crash sounded from outside. Something about this situation made me uneasy. Maybe it was because I was a mother now, but I felt a chill in my lungs. I picked up both children and held them close.

Alice’s eyes took on a distant look, and I wasn’t sure who she was communicating with. But her serious expression worried me. Her gaze snapped back to me, and it was Aurora’s eyes that met mine. “He’s here.”

A chill ran down my spine, and I felt a cold sweat break out on my back. Hawk wasn’t here yet. He was my protector, my mate. Normally, I was strong and composed, but this was the same fear I had experienced before. Ever since Hawk rescued me from that terrible place, he had reignited a spark in me, shown me love.

“Luna, we need to get you out of here.” Alice’s hands cupped my face, her gaze piercing mine. “Nat isn’t here to help us. We need to be extra vigilant, but I can sense Akasha and another nearby.” Alice led me out, and we made our way to the other side of the cabins. I felt like a failure as a luna to my pack. I should be showing them how to stand and fight. Instead, I was running.

“Well, well, what do we have here?” a voice that sent chills down my spine echoed in front of us.

Alice and I clutched our babies tighter. My voice was stuck in my throat, my breaths coming in short gasps. The man I never wanted to see again was glaring at me. I felt like the weak, vulnerable girl I was before Hawk saved me.

Alice stepped in front of me, drawing Alpha Jamerson’s attention to her. “Do you think you can intimidate my luna?” She growled at him, and a smirk played on his lips. He was enjoying this.

Don’t let him weaken you. You are strong and respected by your pack, unlike him.” Alice’s words echoed in my mind, and a sense of calm washed over me.

“It’s a pity your pack is being destroyed right now. You have no control over them, and they are running wild because their alpha is more concerned about trying to bring me down.” Alice tilted her head to the side, her gaze unwavering.

“Draven and his men are decimating your pack as we speak.” He laughed, a hint of bewilderment marring his features. “You’re right about one thing, though. I’m here to take you down. Then, Astrid, you’ll pay.” His gaze shifted back to me, landing on my two little ones. “I was under the impression you couldn’t shift, let alone have pups?” He moved a step closer, but Alice held her ground.

“Why would she want to shift when she had a lousy alpha like you, keeping her captive and abused for years? What was your reason, Jake?” Alice was clearly probing for answers I’d never been given. Why was I imprisoned? Why did he despise me so much? My memories of my childhood were long lost.

He didn’t appreciate Alice’s tone, and her use of his first name was a blatant sign of disrespect. He expected to be addressed as alpha at all times; it was a symbol of his dominance.

His eyes narrowed, his fists tightened. I feared for Alice, knowing he had no qualms about raising his hand to a woman. Our lives spiraled downward the moment he shifted and his wolf emerged.
