Chapter 5: Family

I woke up in a bedroom that definitely wasn’t mine and slowly walked around admiring everything about it, from the steel gray walls to the posters of cars, even the little desk with a laptop on it.

I walked over to the dresser by the bed and watched as my hand slowly moved up to the handle.

“The maid will get her. Get back down here now,” I heard a voice say sternly making my hand stop.

“No,” I heard Giovanni’s voice say before I noticed the handle on the door twist.

I quickly ran back to the bed before throwing myself on it.

“AHHH!” I screamed as I bounced off the bed and landed on the floor.

“What are you doing?” I heard Gio ask with a chuckle. I slowly sat up and looked toward the door where he was standing with a sheepish look.

“Nothing,” I said quickly, standing up.

“Mmm,” he said as he stepped into the room and closed the door behind him.

“What’s wrong?” I asked as he sat on the bed beside me.

“Nothing. How are you holding up?” he asked, changing the subject.

I bit my lip and shrugged. “I’ll be okay,” I said softly, avoiding his eyes.

“You can talk to me,” he said softly.

I took a deep breath and shook my head. “I’m fine,” I lied.

“You’re not—look at me,” he said softly as he put his finger under my chin and turned my head toward him.

I slowly looked up into his eyes and bit my lip as I stared into his intense eyes.

“I-I see her body every time I close my eyes,” I said softly.

“I know, principessa. But it’ll go away eventually, trust me,” he said softly. He softly rested his hand on my cheek and smiled softly.

I let my face sink into his hand and smiled back. He locked his eyes with mine and started to slowly lean in.

“Your parents told me to tell you—oh, I’m sorry,” a lady dressed as a maid said as she stepped into the room.

He rolled his eyes, and it was easy to tell he was annoyed, but I was happy she came in when she did. He still had a girlfriend—or whatever they were to each other.

“It’s okay,” I said as I moved away from Gio.

“What did my parents want you to tell me?” he asked the maid as he kept his eyes on me.

“Dinner’s ready,” she said softly, looking at the ground.

“Okay. Can you take my guest to the spare room so she can freshen up?” he asked, standing up and walking to a door across from the bed.

The maid nodded and shyly looked up at me. I slowly stood up, avoiding Gio’s eyes, and followed after the maid.

We walked through the room and down the corridor past many, many rooms until we finally reached the guest room. I slowly followed the maid into the room, awestruck.

“It’s beautiful,” I said softly.

“It is,” the maid responded nervously.

“I’m Luna,” I said, putting my hand out with a smile.

“Cataleya,” she responded as she shook my hand.

“Um, where’s the shower?” I asked softly. She pointed to a door across from the bed.

“It’s there, ma’am,” she said softly.

“Call me Luna Cataleya,” I said with a small smile.

“Okay, Ms. Luna,” she said softly.

“No, just Luna,” I giggled, shaking my head.

“Okay, Just Luna,” she said, looking at me curiously.

“What? No, I—”

“I know what you meant, Luna,” she said, giggling.

I smiled and pointed to the bathroom as I started to walk toward it. “I should start showering now,” I said softly.

“Okay,” she said, nodding.

I stepped into the bathroom and quickly showered with an extra loofah Cataleya gave me.

“Cataleya?” I asked softly as I stepped out of the bathroom. I looked around but only saw any empty room.

I walked toward the bed as I noticed a beautiful evening gown on the bed. I quickly dried and moisturized my body before slowly pulling the dress on.

I sat behind the mirror and applied some lip gloss and mascara. I stood up and looked at myself in the mirror before I realized the dress had a zipper in the back that I didn’t close.

I reached behind me and started spinning around as I tried to zip my dress up.

“What are you doing?” I heard Gio ask from behind me.

I stopped spinning and looked at him, sheepishly biting my lip. He looked good. He was wearing a white button-up with black jeans and had slicked his hair back.

I noticed that he purposely left two of his buttons at the top unbuttoned, and he’d tucked his shirt in.

I bit my lip nervously and looked at the heels Cataleya left in here for me, knowing full well he knew I was just checking him out.

“I was trying to zip up my dress,” I said softly and turned around to show him.

I felt his warm hands on my back, and I tensed up. I let myself relax as his cologne took over my senses.

I felt my knees go weak and would have fallen if Gio’s hands hadn’t shot out to my waist to keep me up. I slowly turned around to face him sheepishly.

“Are you okay?” he asked with a concerned look on his face.

“Mm-hmm. Yeah, thanks,” I said softly. I looked up into his beautiful eyes and bit my lip, making his eyes go down to my lips.

“We should go,” he mumbled, taking my hand in his and leading me toward the door. He intertwined our fingers, and I didn’t fight him but kept quiet as I followed closely behind him.

“Where’s the girl?” I heard a voice ask when we arrived at the dining area. I shyly stepped around him and bit my lip nervously.

“Hello,” I said softly. I looked up to see Bebe walking toward me and smiled as she hugged me tightly. She took my hand in hers and sat me across from her with Gio beside me.

“Ah, so you’re the one that my son seems to like so much.”

I looked up at Gio’s dad, who looked exactly like him, and stared at him wide-eyed before shaking my head.

“This is her,” Gio said, resting his hand on my thigh.

I kept my mouth shut, figuring he didn’t want his parents to know about Brittney.

“She doesn’t look like much,” Gio’s father said, looking me up and down.

I bit my lip and looked down again.

“I think she’s beautiful. Inside and out. Besides, she’s better than that Brittney,” Bebe said, giving me a warm smile.

I smiled back and played with my fingers in my lap.

“Of course you do,” Gio’s father mumbled. “Don’t get me wrong, she’s beautiful, but will she stick around when she finds out? Does she just want you for status and money?” Gio’s dad continued.

Gio tensed beside me, and I could tell he was becoming angry. I gently rested my hand on his hand that was on my lap.

“All due respect, sir, I don’t want anything from Gio or anybody else in his family. My family raised me better than to want.

“I don’t need status or money. I don’t need anything from you guys, and as for sticking around, I never plan on leaving,” I said as calmly as possible.

Gio’s father stared at me wide-eyed before smiling and clapping his hand one time, and I swear I saw a mixture of pride and respect flash through his eyes.

“Let’s eat,” he said with a chuckle. “I like her,” he said to Gio with a wink.
