RUBY
Maybe the thing that you’re most scared of is what you should do. —www.livelifehappy.com~
I sit in the library, leaning my head down on my left hand, my laptop placed out in front of me, my pen tapping against the surface. What do you do when you are placed in a situation that is dangerous?
It’s obvious that Kai is capable of more than what I would have expected. He shot multiple men inside a restaurant, and I watched as it played out as if it were a movie scene.
Now he is keeping his eyes on me like a hawk waiting to take its prey. The difference is the fact that I am a girl and not an animal. Plus, I didn’t see it coming from in the distance.
Melanie and Blake enter laughing together and take a seat around the table. I keep my gaze down on the dark wooden surface, tapping my pen, feeling uncomfortable.
“What happened?” Blake asks me, and I look up at him, showing him that it’s hard for me to talk about. Not that I have an option anymore because Kai warned me. He knows what he’s doing.
“I can’t tell you. Kai came and gave me a warning.” I give him a sincere smile, and he looks at Melanie.
Melanie places her arm down on the table. “Okay, we will let you off. So, are we going to this party tonight?”
“No. I don’t want to go.”
“Why because of Kai? We will stay with you; we promise.”
“Are you sure?”
“We’re sure. We promise.”
I don’t want to let my friends down and allow Kai to scare me off, but there’s definitely something weird about his family. I need to figure it out, and I don’t know how.
I don’t want to get closer to him for obvious reasons. I can’t let my friends down because their faces tell me they want to go to this party.
I cannot blame them considering this is the first party they have been invited to. Well, the popular group’s party anyway. I’m not going to let them down.
“I guess that I can go.”
“We need to tell Lisa,” Melanie states, and I nod my head, knowing she’s correct.
Standing up, I close my laptop and place it back inside my bag. “I will go and tell Lisa now.”
“Okay. We will see you at lunch.” Melanie and Blake wave at me, and I give them a smile, throwing my bag over my shoulder.
“That you will.” I walk out of the library and make my way down the hallway. Searching around, I see Lisa standing with Lola, Kai, Leon, Ian, and Cody.
Making quick strides, I stop behind Kai and wait for Lola to cough. Kai turns slowly and stares down at me. I appear smaller than him and tilt my head back.
“Ruby?” he states calmly, biting his bottom lip and smirking at me.
“We will be at your party tonight. Where is it?” I try to act fearlessly.
“My house. Seven.”
“See you at seven,” I reply nervously and turn on my heels.
“Black dress,” he mumbles, and I twist around. “What?”
“Wear a black dress. That color suits you,” he speaks in an unhurried voice before turning and closing off his circle. I think to myself, Yes, sir, and walk away. How would he know?

“We are playing Drunk Jenga. You take a brick and pull it out. Once you have picked it, you have to do what it says on the other side. The instructions have been placed on each one prior to being set up.
“Are you game, or are you a chicken?” Lola asks with a sassy attitude, and I make a judgment and decide that I dislike her already.
“No, I will play.” I give her a smile and cross my arms, taking a seat on the floor.
Melanie and Blake sit next to me on either side, and Lola sits next to Blake, Leon next to him, Ian beside Leon, Cody next to Leon, Kai opposite me, and Lisa next to Kai, closing the circle off.
When we arrived, Kai’s group surrounded us and said that we needed to play Drunk Jenga. All the boys are dressed in smart casual, and Lisa is wearing a pink dress with heels.
Lola is in a baby-blue dress and heels. Me and Melanie went with black dresses, and Blake put on a navy-blue sweater with blue jeans.
“Lola, you can go first because of the way that you spoke to Ruby,” Kai tells her, and she rolls her eyes, pulling the top brick off. Turning it around, she giggles, and everyone waits for her to tell us what it says.
“Blindfold the person on your left and have them kiss three objects of your choice. Don’t tell them what they are.”
Lola picks up a scarf and wraps it around Blake’s eyes and runs around the house collecting multiple items. One of the items is a pair of boxer briefs, and Kai raises his eyebrows in amusement.
“Here is item one.” She smiles, raising the underwear above her head and pressing it up against his lips. He tries to guess what it is but doesn’t have any luck.
Pulling out a fork, she pushes it to his lips, followed by a flower from a vase. Blake removes the blindfold and stares at the items of Lola’s choice. “Whose underwear are those?”
