Chapter 1
“What are you doing here alone?” Drake asked Lotta angrily.
His voice sent a chill down her spine, and her legs seemed to lose all strength. He was an alpha, her future alpha. And his words felt like a command Lotta couldn’t ignore.
Still, she had never experienced anything like this before, especially when he spoke her name.
Lotta felt weaker than ever, which had never happened to her before. It made her feel strange.
Yes, he was attractive, a dream for most of the girls in the pack, but not for her. He was tall and muscular, his skin darkened by the sun, which made his black eyes even darker, just like his messy hair.
The night was sultry, and Lotta’s skimpy dress revealed more than it should have, drawing Drake’s attention to her stunning figure. Lotta, however, was oblivious to this effect.
She wore what she had and didn’t consider how he might react to her outfit. She did notice that his shirt was unbuttoned, which could mean he was either overheated or intoxicated.
This realization made her feel both scared and drawn to him at the same time.
“Are you disobeying your future alpha?” he asked, a mocking tone in his voice.
“Come here.” His voice was softer, but Lotta was angry about his behavior toward her.
He wasn’t her alpha yet, and he wouldn’t be for at least a few years, maybe longer. But that wasn’t why she didn’t run away. Lotta was an omega, and she felt strange.
His eyes were fixed on her, as if she were his prey, and she trembled as she approached him.
“With all due respect, Drake, you are not my alpha, at least, not yet,” Lotta tried to keep her voice steady, even though she knew the dungeon would likely be her next stop after this.
She was stubborn and refused to accept such a tone from anyone without a good reason. After all, she was the child of a warrior.
“I’m sorry.” She sighed. “Usually there’s no one here,” she tried to justify herself.
“Hm, like in the whole year you’ve been coming here, even though you know it’s forbidden?” he asked, his tone serious.
“Are you stalking me?” Lotta was surprised and angered by his accusation.
He took her hand and pulled her close. Lotta could feel his muscular body against hers, his hand resting on her waist, sending a thousand little sparks of sensation through her.
She had never felt anything like that in her life, and she couldn’t resist; Lotta was enchanted and drawn to him.
He wore a satisfied smile, and Lotta could see his wolf in his golden eyes. That sight both scared and excited her.
He began to caress her and she froze. Not out of fear, but because she liked it; her body craved his touch.
“I’m your alpha and the only person who can do this to you, understand me, Lotta?” he whispered hoarsely in her ear, his lips slowly kissing her neck.
Lotta moaned softly, her body trembling from his touch. She had no experience with males, but she knew this was wrong, no matter who he was.
Yet, Lotta felt too weak to push him away, which only added to her anger.
He pressed himself against her, and she could feel his hardness. God, he was huge, which scared her. But in that moment, Lotta felt like she was dreaming.
Her breasts hardened when he touched them, and despite her mind’s protests, a strong desire for him surged within her. The sensations were maddening, a mix of bliss and torture.
He pulled her shirt aside to expose her neck, and Lotta could feel his canines graze her skin. Her heart raced, and she felt like she would choke if he marked her—this was insane.
What has gotten into him? Why is he doing this to me? Am I his mate?
She didn’t know.
Does he want something else from me? All Lotta could focus on was his intoxicating scent.
She shook as if it were the last day of her life. Suddenly, when she closed her eyes, bracing for the pain, he stopped.
His eyes were no longer gold, but black, and he looked seriously at Lotta before pushing her away. His breathing was heavy, and sweat dripped from his forehead.
“Pull yourself together and get away from here! I forbid you to enter this garden as long as I’m here!” he hissed and made to leave.
“Hold it right there, mister, because I haven’t finished with you either! Who do you think you are, huh, to provoke me like this? Do you think you can just walk in here and treat me like I’m nothing, just like everyone else does? You dare to try the same?” She glared at him.
“Listen to me, and listen very carefully: this garden was built by my grandfather for my grandmother, whom I never met, so it is sacred to me. For your information, I come here often, and your father allows me to, so you have no right to forbid me anything, you hear me?
“So don’t you dare touch me again, or I will take revenge on you for everything you’ve done to me, especially for tonight when you took something from me, my pride! Now, go, and God forbid I see you again!” Lotta said in one breath, but he wasn’t ready to leave. Not yet.
He was beside her in an instant.
“Now you listen to me, my precious one: no one, including my father, can tell me what to do or where I can go. I want you to never step foot in this garden until I get back, understand, Lotta?” His eyes were glowing again.
“No, I don’t understand, because I was here first! This is my secret place, it’s sacred to me, and I will come here whenever I want, so you can’t do anything about that!” Lotta shouted in anger.
His breathing was heavy as he placed a rough kiss on her lips, which instantly swelled. He was intentionally rough, just to show her he could do whatever he wanted.
“You are such an asshole, Drake!” she cried, then ran from the garden, tears in her eyes, losing her pride with every step.
He stood there, but the smile had long since left his lips.
What just happened? Lotta felt like the worst person alive.
She felt dirty and confused, but mostly, she felt heartbroken. It hurt, it really hurt, because she felt shattered from that night.
He never spoke to her again, not even to issue orders or come close to her. It was as if he were avoiding Lotta, and honestly, she was grateful for it.
Sometimes, Lotta would catch him looking at her, just like that night in the garden, but she quickly pushed the thoughts aside or threw herself into work just to forget.
But the fact was, she couldn’t shake it off.
After a few days, he left to train to become a future alpha. This pack was the biggest and strongest among the others, and it needed a capable leader. But the luna was another story altogether.
Thank God I’m not one of them, she thought.
She was relieved when he left, yet something inside her felt empty, as if a part of her had gone with him. It felt strange.
