EPILOGUE
Shelby sat in the rocker on the front porch of the Silver Star. Her cat, Ruby, lounged on the porch railing. The poor feline wasn’t thrilled with the number of dogs who shared her new environment, but she’d finally gotten used to them.
A pickup hauling a horse trailer came down the lane and stopped in front of the barn. Paul and Lawson climbed out, and Shelby walked off the porch to join them. Paul pulled her into a hug, then motioned toward the mare Lawson led from the trailer. “What do you think?”
“She’s beautiful.”
After deciding his time with the SEALs was over, Paul had taken a job with Josh, working for the sheriff’s office, training deputies in operational tactics. So far, several other jurisdictions had also contacted him to be included in his training. As for Shelby’s career path...this mare represented their first step in a new joint venture of starting a horse therapy center for veterans with PTSD.
Even months after being shot, Shelby was taking it easy physically, but her life was not lacking. In fact, God had blessed her in more ways than she’d ever thought possible. She’d gained a husband in Paul, a family in the Averys and a new purpose in her life. It was more than she’d ever expected and she was still in awe of how happy she could be. She’d lost so much, but God had given her so much more.
Paul’s hand moved to her stomach and the growing life inside, and he leaned down to kiss her.
The blessings just kept on coming.
