Epilogue
Dallas lay in the bed he and Zora now shared in Vogar, Iceland. They’d returned home to Magnolia Lake to spend Thanksgiving with their families. Much to his surprise, Zora and their mothers had planned a simple but elegant wedding ceremony for their families that Saturday. They’d returned to Iceland a week later after a proper honeymoon in Costa Rica.
They would board their flight back to Magnolia Lake for the holidays tomorrow morning. Dallas was content to lie in bed with his wife, her warm, soft body melded to his as they lay together naked.
Zora kissed his bare chest, then lifted her head. Her hair, which she now wore in loose curls, was wild because he’d run his fingers through it when he’d made love to her. Her hair partially covered her face. But he couldn’t miss her smile. His wife practically glowed with happiness.
“I got you an early Christmas gift.” He suddenly remembered the gift-wrapped package he’d picked up in Reykjavik earlier that day.
Zora grinned. “I’ve got something for you, too.”
Dallas climbed out of the bed to go find his bag and retrieve the gift. He presented it to her, and she opened the prettily wrapped box with its shiny, gold ribbon, pulling the merino wool sweater dress out of the box and grinning.
“I love it. It’s gorgeous.” She beamed, thanking him as she leaned over to kiss him. Then she retrieved a small box from the drawer of the bedside table and handed it to him. “Here’s yours.”
Dallas loosened the ribbon that tied the box and opened it. He stared at his gift. His eyes widened and his heart thudded in his chest. For a moment, he was unable to speak. He stared at the little white and blue stick with a single word on its digital screen: Pregnant.
“Is this...are we...”
“Yes.” Zora laughed softly, placing a hand on her belly. “We’re pregnant.”
Dallas’s heart raced and he couldn’t stop smiling. He took his wife in his arms and hugged her.
“How long have you known?”
“I suspected as much last week, so I took a few different tests. I visited an OB/GYN earlier today. She confirmed it,” Zora said. “You are happy about this, aren’t you? Because I am hopelessly in love with you, Dallas Hamilton. And I can’t wait to raise this baby with you. You’re not only my best friend, you’re the love of my life.” Her eyes were wet with tears.
“I love you so much, Zo. And I could not be happier.” He leaned down and kissed her belly, then pressed another to her lips.
Dallas had been granted everything he could’ve ever wished for. He could receive no greater gift. And it was worth whatever sacrifices they’d have to make to build a life together.
