From the world of MASON…
Lauren
“Where the hell are they?”
I bit my lip to keep from moaning as Mason’s hand slid up my thigh.
“I’m sure they’ll be here any second. If you’ll just be a little more patient…”
I gasped as his lips pressed against my neck, and I quickly covered my mouth with my hands.
“Patient? Be more patient? We’ve been here for ages!”
“I know, sir, and I’m so sorry. I’m sure they’ll be here any minute.”
“Mason, we really shouldn’t be doing this…” I winced as he pressed his hand against the one-way mirror. Would they really not notice us? Could they really not see us? There was an entire bloody boardroom full of people right there. Very important people, might I add…
“Let them wait.” He lifted me up and hitched my legs around his waist as he pressed me up against the glass. Imagine my horror when the thud made everyone look over in our direction.
“What the hell was that?” the investigator demanded. I heard footsteps approaching the door.
“Mason!” I whisper-screamed in a panic.
He pressed his lips against mine, the kiss so dominating it almost made me forget my name. “Tell me to stop, and I will.” He squeezed my ass, and this time, I couldn’t hold back the whimper that left my lips. “But you won’t.”
I looked through the one-way mirror and saw the investigator reaching for the doorknob.
Common sense warred with lust and desire in my head.
How on earth did I get into this situation?
—FIFTEEN MINUTES EARLIER…—
“Is everything in order?” Athena asked.
I checked the documents and files laid out on the conference room table for the thousandth time.
“I think so.”
“Mason is going to bite your head off if you answer like that,” she said.
I went pale. The worst thing is that I knew she wasn’t joking.
“Yes,” I corrected.
Athena nodded. “Better. I’m going to go check on everyone else. You going to be okay in here?”
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. Athena left, and I looked over everything in the boardroom again. The office was on fire. Not literally, as I would probably be running around screaming my bloody head off, but figuratively.
An important audit was happening today, and an investigator from the government was coming to make sure everything was properly sorted. Normally, that would be fine, but the problem was the owner and CEO of the company. My boss.
Mason Campbell.
He was the type of man that commanded attention. The second he walked into a room, the men would look away intimidated, and the women would tilt their heads, lick their lips, and bat their lashes at him. A billionaire entrepreneur, he was rumored to have more power and influence than even the royal family. He was ruthless, mysterious, and incredibly dangerous. The world was his playground, and London was his throne.
And somehow, impossibly, he’d hired me to be his personal assistant.
Not to mention our… other… agreement.
I shooed away the naughty thoughts in my mind. I had to stay focused if I didn’t want to end up at the bottom of the Thames with cement shoes.
“Lauren, are you there?” I heard Athena’s voice through the boardroom’s sound system.
“Yes. Need something?”
“Can you go into the AV room and check if the projector is working? The auditor will be here any minute.”
“Got it. One second.” I walked to the back of the boardroom. There was a large mirror here that fit perfectly with the design of the room and made it look larger, but it also doubled as a one-way mirror to the audio and visual tech room. Someone would be able to sit back here and control all of the state-of-the-art technology in the boardroom without interrupting whatever meeting was happening.
I stepped inside and made my way to the console. There were a million buttons and wires and big server towers. I hadn’t the slightest clue how to work any of them, but I did know how to tell if a projector was turned on or not.
Little green light, check.
I walked back outside, and I noticed that the tea I set for Mason at the head of the table didn’t have a coaster underneath it. “Athena, are you still there?” Projector works just fine.
“Brilliant. The auditor just checked in at the lobby. He’s on his way up.”
“Got it. Thanks.”
Athena disconnected the line. Everything else was perfect… I frowned. As I picked up Mason’s tea, I noticed that it had gone cold.
“Oh, bloody hell.” My psychopath of a boss would find any reason to torment me, and I wanted to give him as little ammo as possible. I’ll just replace it quickly. I spun around to the door and rushed outside to get a fresh cup when I suddenly slammed into what felt like a brick wall. I stumbled backwards and landed on my butt, cold tea splashing everywhere.
“Ouch…” I looked up, anger coloring my cheeks. “Watch where you’re going, you…” My voice died away as I realized who I was speaking to.
His perfectly tailored suit, now drenched with tea, hugged his massive, muscular frame. His jawline, so sharp it could cut glass, was clenched tight. And those eyes… those steely gray eyes burning into me, terrifying and alluring at the same time.
“Mason…”
He looked down at his clothes and then back at me. “Explain.” His voice was the rumble of thunder. The coming of a storm.
My life flashed before my eyes.
“T-tea. The tea was cold, so I thought I’d replace it…” I tried to stammer through an explanation, but just then I heard the ding of the elevator ring out from down the hall. The auditor was here.
“Now you’ve done it.” Mason turned and looked back in that direction. “Excellent start to the audit.”
What happened next I couldn’t explain, even if I wanted to. I went into full panic mode. My brain must have short-circuited. Before I knew what I was doing, I found myself grabbing Mason by the arm and dragging him into the AV room.
“What the hell are you doing now?” Mason asked.
“We need to get you cleaned up before he sees it.” My heart was pounding so loudly in my chest that I could hardly hear my own voice. I frantically stripped Mason out of his suit and was in the middle of unbuttoning his shirt when his hands covered mine. They were so large and strong that they might as well have been iron manacles.
“Lauren. Breathe,” he commanded.
I obeyed, his voice and the powerful grip around my hands pulling me out of my panic. I took a deep breath, willing myself to calm down.
“Better?” he asked.
I nodded, staring at my shoes, not trusting myself to speak yet.
“Look at me.”
I looked up at him timidly, expecting to see the anger burning in his eyes. But instead, all I saw was…amusement?
“What now?” he asked.
“Huh?”
“You’ve dragged me into this room and undressed me. What was the plan?”
It took an embarrassingly long time for my brain to catch up. I looked around. Mason and I were in the back room, surrounded by high-tech gadgets, with his tea-soaked suit at our feet. Through the one-way mirror, I could see the boardroom filling up with people as the auditor took a seat, waiting for the meeting to start.
And then I saw Mason. Really took a good look at him. His dress shirt was soaked through, so it was partly see-through, the fabric clinging to his muscles. His shirt was halfway unbuttoned. A drop of tea dripped from his chin, down his muscular chest, and over the sculpt of his abs…
My face suddenly felt like it was on fire. Not only had I trapped us in here with the auditor right outside, but I’d stripped my boss half-naked.
“Oh crap…”
“That’s all you have to say for yourself?” he asked. “Oh crap?”
His every word was like the lash of a whip, and I could only wince and hang my head. The silence between us stretched on. I wished a hole would just open up underneath me and swallow me whole. Mason would probably bury me alive later, anyway. This would at least save me the anticipation.
“Let’s get this over with.” Mason moved towards the door.
“Wait!” I pressed my hand against his chest to stop him. He raised an eyebrow at me, and I snapped my hand away from his bare chest. The touch of his skin on mine was electric.
“You can’t go out there like that,” I say. I look over at the auditor, a mean-looking middle-aged man with a potbelly. I could tell he was just looking for any excuse he could to take Mason down.
“What do you suggest?”
“At least…” I gulped. “At least let me dry off what I can.” I pulled out a handkerchief from my blazer.
Mason regarded me with those steely gray eyes for a moment before he leaned back against the one-way mirror. “Suit yourself.”
I willed my hands not to shake as I undid the rest of the buttons on his shirt. My heart pounded in my throat as more and more of his perfect body was revealed. Mason had a body that could make the Greek gods blush. I slid his shirt off of his massive shoulders and started to wipe away some of the tea with my handkerchief.
My hands started to wander. I couldn’t help myself. It was hypnotic, having Mason’s muscles underneath my fingertips, being so close together in secret, his mouth-watering scent surrounding me. And those eyes…his gaze penetrated straight through to my soul, and I felt so small and vulnerable before him. My panties were soaked, my head hazy with lust. But I could see an entire boardroom full of people, all waiting for Mason. This wasn’t the time for naughty fantasies.
“O-okay, all done,” I said. I tried to step away from him, but his arm wrapped around my waist, pinning me to him.
“No, you’re not. Your tea spilled onto my pants, too.” He grabbed my hand and guided it lower until I felt the massive bulge that his pants couldn’t conceal.
