KIRA
A month had passed since Cerion and I sealed our bond in the mating ceremony.
The morning sun was sneaking through the gaps in the half-closed curtains, nudging me awake with its warm touch.
I rolled over in bed, expecting to find Cerion’s firm body next to mine. But I was met with disappointment.
The other side of the bed was cold and empty, a realization that hit me as I blinked my eyes open and stared at the vacant space.
I couldn’t help but wonder where he was. Cerion wasn’t an early riser, and he usually needed a bit of coaxing to get out of bed.

I quickly unfolded the letter and started reading.

I love watching you sleep, Kira. I love the way the morning sun filters through the curtains and bathes your skin in a warm, golden glow. I held the note close to my heart, letting out a soft sigh.
Cerion had always been a bit of a mystery to me. He was often cold and serious, but there were moments when he showed a softer, sweeter side.
Waking up to a love note from him was one of those moments, and it made my heart flutter.
The dragon’s entrance usually meant one of two things. Either we were going to shift into our dragon forms and soar through the sky, or we were going to make love with wild abandon.

I hopped out of bed and practically skipped to my closet.
Cerion had a way of making me feel giddy, like a teenager in love for the first time. And in a way, I was.

I chose a blue silk gown for the day. It was soft against my skin and hugged my curves in all the right places.
I added a pair of silver heels and a touch of makeup—pink lipstick, a golden shimmer on my cheekbones, and a bit of concealer under my eyes.
My hair was still curled from the night before. I gave myself one last look in the mirror before heading out the door, nodding to the guards as I passed.
I hurried down the hallway, my heart pounding with anticipation.
When I reached the dragon’s entrance, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. The stone archway, carved with dragons, brought back memories of our ceremony, the night we became one, the night my dragon emerged.
Cerion was waiting for me, his back to me, his muscles visible beneath his black silk shirt.
He turned his head to look at me, a half-smile playing on his lips. “Good morning, my queen.”
I felt a flutter in my chest. “Good morning, my king.”
His tongue darted out to wet his lips. “You look delicious this morning.”
I laughed, playing along with his teasing. “I didn’t know dragons had such big appetites.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Really? I’m always hungry when I look at you.”
I blushed, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks. “So, what’s the surprise?”
He shrugged, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “I can’t tell you. That would ruin the surprise.”
I rolled my eyes, walking toward him. “You know I’m not good at waiting.”
He reached out, his thumb brushing against my cheek.
“A queen must learn patience. She must always be composed.”
I snorted, grabbing his wrist. “Thanks for the lesson in etiquette.”
He looked down at me, a smirk on his face. We were both testing each other—pushing each other’s boundaries.
“You were into it, weren’t you?” I shot back, feeling the blush creep up my cheeks.
“Perhaps I was,” he responded, a shrug in his voice—our gazes locked in a playful dance.
“At last, you’re owning up to it,” I chuckled.
Cerion, in response, looped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer. “Just a quick flight and we’ll be at the surprise,” he said, our fingers lacing together as he guided me toward the dragon’s entrance.
I took a deep, steadying breath—readying myself for the transformation.
