Prologue
The Dark Moon Pack was abuzz with anticipation. Today was the day their new alpha, Daemon Morris, would officially claim his title.
The excitement was palpable, as it was also the day he would reveal his mate and luna to the pack.
Aylin Turner, a young woman of eighteen, was certain she was the one. Every time she was near Daemon or spoke to him, her heart would flutter uncontrollably.
One day, his hand brushed against hers, and a spark of electricity shot up her arm. It was a clear sign that he was her mate.
She hoped Daemon had felt the sparks too. They had rocked her to her core, filling her with a joy so profound and a longing to be near him that was almost unbearable.
There was no doubt in her mind that he was her mate.
It didn’t hurt that he was quite a sight to behold. At six feet tall, with tousled brown hair, he wasn’t as chiseled as most of the pack’s wolves, but a hint of a six-pack was beginning to show.
He spent countless hours training rigorously with his warriors. He was a magnet for the unmated females, who were always hovering around him.
Aylin felt a pang of insecurity around them. She couldn’t compete with their looks. They were practically supermodels, with their long hair and slender legs.
Not that Aylin was unattractive, but she didn’t quite match their level of beauty. She was petite, standing at four foot eleven, with chestnut hair that fell to her mid-back.
Her curvy figure contrasted sharply with theirs, and she understood why Daemon was drawn to them.
She held onto the hope that once he recognized his mate, he would change. It was said that once an alpha found his mate, he became a different man.
He was supposed to love her, treat her as his equal, and together they would rule as alpha and luna of their pack.
The pack gathered around the stage in the backyard of the pack house. Aylin positioned herself towards the back. As usual, not many people chose to stand near her.
When Daemon emerged from the backdoor, her breath hitched. Her palms grew sweaty, and her heart pounded in her chest.
She crossed her arms over her chest and lowered her gaze in submission when his eyes met hers. Her heightened hearing picked up the sound of him sniffing the air.
A low growl rumbled from him, but he brushed past her, making his way to the stage. Aylin’s mouth watered at the sight of him.
His dark skinny jeans clung to his legs, and a white dress shirt, unbuttoned at the top, revealed his partially sculpted chest. His dark brown hair was artfully tousled.
His betas, David and Delta Jameson, flanked him.
People nearby shot her glares as Daemon took his place on the stage. They had noticed him looking at Aylin before he moved to the stage.
Applause filled the air as their alpha made his presence known.
“Good afternoon, everyone!”
“Good afternoon, Alpha!” the crowd responded in unison.
“Today, we are gathered here for me to assume my rightful place as alpha of the Dark Moon Pack and to announce that I have found my mate and my luna!”
Cheers and howls erupted from the crowd.
Aylin’s heart pounded in anticipation. Was he about to announce that she was his mate?
She brought her hands to her mouth, her eyes widening in shock.
“Pack members of Dark Moon, my mate, and your luna is—”
“Ophelia Wilson!”
