The weekend had come and gone. It was finally Monday—the day I was looking forward to since my dramatic Friday night.
I hated to admit I found Kara drifting through my thoughts frequently, but I was determined to get back at her.
The time had come. Our first shared class together. Leaning back in my seat, I watched student after student enter the room, hoping to eventually see Kara.
When she eventually arrived, the room went silent. Word about what happened Friday spread like wildfire. High schoolers love their gossip.
Dazed in her own world, it took a few minutes before she realized everyone was watching her. I couldn’t help but grin at her oblivious aura.
Her eyebrows furrowed as she scanned the room. Clearly, she knew what was going on by now. When her eyes landed on me, rage consumed her brown eyes.
Kara stuck her chin up, refusing to let the stares get to her. While locking her stare on me, she mocked, “Is this because I made Jackson look like a fool?”
The fact that she immediately added fuel to the fire without giving a shit about everyone in the room baffled me. I tried my best to hide my irritation.
It didn’t work well when I corrected, “Jason.” My eyes narrowed on their own, giving away my irritation. The action seemed to fluster her, and she stared at the floor. It piqued my curiosity.
Even as she was flushing, she met my gaze again, refusing to look away. It was a heated stare-down. “That’s what I said. Jackson.”
She finally tore her eyes away and walked toward the exit. Where the hell was she going? Class hadn’t even started.
I silently watched as she swayed her hips. My eyes lingered on her ass, grumbling to myself that she managed to successfully distract me as she escaped.

Our first interaction didn’t go as planned. I was currently losing in this one-sided war that Kara wasn’t even aware of. That just made it worse.
After class, I messaged my friend Isaac. He was currently our science teacher’s assistant and had access to the classroom’s pet. This was sure to spook her.
With his help, we were able to sneak Spike out and put him into her locker. Our teacher had a special key for helping with lockers when jammed. Thankfully, he was oblivious and left it laying around all the time.
The bell dismissed our classes and I rushed toward Kara’s locker. I peeked around the corner of the hallway, keeping an eye out for her.
“Are you sure about this, Jason?” Isaac sighed, disappointed that I’d managed to convince him to help me with my evil shenanigans once again.
Whipping back around, I hissed, “Shhh.” Turning back around, I watched as Kara and Jessica stood at her locker. They were talking about something as she put in the combination. I horribly refrained from snickering.
Kara momentarily paused, staring at some post-it stuck to her locker. She crumpled it up and tossed it aside. While turning back to Jessica, she reached into her locker.
Perfect. She didn’t even bother looking.
They were mid-conversation when shock crossed her features. Her body stiffened suddenly, and Jessica mimicked her. Kara began to slowly pull out her hand before Jessica stopped her.
I couldn’t hear what she said, but it was clearly some type of warning.
Whatever she had said to Kara caused her to finally look into her locker. A scream rippled down the hallways as Kara flailed her hand, pulling it out lightning-quick.
This time I could hear her. “JESS! KILL IT! OH MY GOD!” Kara screamed as she realized what was on her hand. Watching them run around like clowns caused laughter to erupt from me.
I’d laughed too loud, catching Kara’s attention. Oh, fuck.
She stared at me with clenched fists. “You.” She seethed at me before storming towards me. Long brown hair swayed around her as she walked. It was almost angelic.
I closed my lips, attempting to hide my amusement. It failed, so I covered my mouth and coughed a few times to cover it up. “I see you’ve met Spike.”
“I don’t get what you’re trying to do”—my eyes widened when she connected her hand with my shoulder, roughly shoving me back—“but I’m starting to get pissed off.” Kara hissed. Something about the touch ignited my hormones.
I smirked as I took a step towards Kara, closing any distance between us. Realizing what I was doing, she groaned and turned to walk away.
It was too late, though. I’d already noticed her flushed cheeks. The reactions I was getting from her amused me.
That was definitely worth it.

I groaned as I stretched my back. Sixth period was going far too slowly. My gaze flickered to the TV, signaling that the school’s news crew was going to give their weekly announcements. After this, school was over and I could go home and nap.
Dropping my chin onto my hand, I watched the TV expecting to see the familiar faces that appear every week. Except they weren’t on the screen. My body jolted when I saw my most embarrassing childhood picture staring back at me.
Mario. That fucking asshole.
As soon as the bell rang a few minutes later, a growl ripped out of me as I stormed out of the classroom. There was no way anyone could pinpoint it down to being me, but I knew who it was and it pissed me off.
Just as I was about to make it to Mario’s locker, I noticed Kara standing in the hallway with an extremely mischievous look. Was it her doing? No way.
The look on her face answered my question. Mario was playing it smart. Not only did he get revenge for my last prank, but he managed to jab at me some more by dragging Kara into this.
Smart little shit. He was aware of what happened between us on Friday.
I stumbled through a few people as I stomped toward her. Usually I’d feel bad, but right now I was torn between embarrassment and rage.
“Where did you get that picture?” I growled once I reached her. It had to be Mario, but I wanted to hear her answer.
Kara contained her snickers before remaining cool and replying with a shrug. That only irritated me further.
“Was it Mario?” I continued questioning her.
Before I could process what was happening, Kara placed both her dainty hands on my chest and leaned forward until our faces were only a few inches apart.
“Is Jackson mad because he’s losing?” she whispered. I could smell her faint scent of vanilla.
Something in me switched and I began thinking with my other head. I involuntarily groaned when she traced a finger down my stomach. It sent blood rushing down there.
Being this close to her made me realize just how attractive she was. Ice ran through my veins when Kara let out a cold laugh, snapping me out of my trance.
“Let’s go.” Kara gestured to Jess and turned to walk away. I got a closer view of her ass this time. Before she could get too far, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
Without letting her turn, I gripped her hips. I smirked to myself when I heard her breathing hitch. So I wasn’t the only one getting a reaction out of this.
Leaning close to her ear, I whispered, “Don’t play a game you can’t win.” Controlling my hormones, I let her go and walked away before she could.
Fuck. What the hell did I just do?
