LUCY
Two weeks later, they got everything done with the investigation in the flower shop. Everything was cleaned up, there were new flowers, and they reopened.
Lucy was working on an arrangement while Amy finished with an order for a customer who was taking flowers to her mother. The door opened and Kevin came in.
“Hi Kevin!” Amy said.
“Hey Amy,” Kevin said.
“Well, how’s the case?” Amy said.
“Guy went to court, plead guilty to all charges, and will be sentenced next week,” Kevin said.
“Did he say why he broke into my shop?” Lucy asked.
“He said he thought he was breaking into the coffee shop next door, he was so high on drugs.
“That’s why we found him still here; he passed out from the drugs in his system when he didn’t find anything worth stealing,” Kevin said.
“I do not keep money here, I take it to the bank every day on the way home. Mostly, everyone pays with a card anyways,” Lucy said.
“I asked my chief to have patrols on this road more often,” Kevin said.
“Will he do it?” Amy asked.
“Yep, especially after having Mitch and Marco talk with him as well,” Kevin said.
“So what brings you by today?” Amy asked.
“I would like to get a bouquet of flowers, please,” Kevin said.
“For Tara?” Amy asked.
“Yeah,” Kevin said. Amy got some flowers together while Lucy continued working on the arrangement she was working on. Amy rang him up. He paid and left. Lucy stood there in deep thought.
“Lucy, you all right?” Amy asked.
“I’m fine, just thinking about stuff, it’s nothing big,” Lucy said. She smiled and went to the back room, where she leaned against the wall and took deep breaths.
She realized that she was jealous of Tara. She couldn’t believe she felt this way.
“Lucy, tell me what’s going on, please,” Amy said.
“Not a word to anyone,” Lucy said.
“I promise,” Amy said. Lucy told Amy about her dream and what Brad had told her. Amy stood there in shock.
“So Kevin is the guy you met a year ago, the only one?” Amy asked.
“Yes. My husband had just died a couple months before, and I stayed at my house mostly. I met Kevin when he came to serve me custody papers from Brad’s parents,” Lucy said.
“Well, he and Tara aren’t really that serious. She hasn’t met the kids yet,” Amy said.
“And I have,” Lucy said.
“Lucy, I can do a little recon for you,” Amy said.
“Amy,” Lucy said.
“I won’t say anything about this, but maybe I can see how he feels about you,” Amy said.
“How’s that?” Lucy asked.
“Well, Kane and I are staying with him and the kids until our house is completely ready to move into. I can say that a guy came into the shop and asked you out,” Amy said.
“Amy, he’s got a girlfriend, he won’t care,” Lucy said.
“Let me find out, okay?” Amy asked.
“Fine, but I’m telling you, he won’t react to it,” Lucy said.
“If he doesn’t, then we know and you can move on like you have been,” Amy said.
A couple hours later, they closed up the shop and headed home. Lucy gave Amy a ride home since she had to pick up her kids from her sister’s house.
Lucy got Lily and Olivia and they went home.
AMY
Amy was in the kitchen cooking dinner. Kane came in and hugged her from behind.
“I missed you today, my love,” Kane said.
“I missed you too,” Amy said.
“How was your first day back?” Kane asked.
“It was busy. Everyone was glad we were back open. Kevin came in and bought a bouquet of flowers,” Amy said.
“He did?” Kane asked.
“Yeah, how serious are he and Tara?” Amy asked.
“It’s not like you and me, baby, he hasn’t told her he loves her,” Kane said.
“Hey guys,” Kevin said.
“Hey bro,” Kane said.
“Hey Kev,” Amy said.
“I heard you guys talking. I broke up with Tara yesterday. The flowers were for Mom’s grave,” Kevin said.
“I should have got her some,” Kane said.
“I can get some done tomorrow for you, babe,” Amy said.
“Bro, just give me two dollars, okay? They were from all of us,” Kevin said.
“Deal,” Kane said.
“You guys won’t believe what happened today,” Amy said.
“What, baby?” Kane asked.
“A guy came in for flowers and talked with Lucy. He bought the flowers and turned around and asked her out on a date,” Amy said.
“Who is this guy?” Kevin asked.
“I don’t know for sure. I think she said his name was Ethan something,” Amy said.
“I guess she’s ready to move on from her husband,” Kane said.
“I haven’t heard of a guy named Ethan living here in town,” Kevin said.
“I think he may have moved here recently, and he has probably seen her around,” Amy said.
“What does he look like?” Kevin asked.
“He’s got dark hair, I think brown eyes—they were dark—same height as Kane. He’s tanned, so he must work outside in the sun a lot,” Amy said.
“Maybe on a ranch,” Kane said.
“Oh, I see. Can you guys get the kids to bed? I’m not hungry and I’m tired,” Kevin said. He went upstairs. Amy looked at Kane.
“What the hell?” Kane asked.
“He likes Lucy,” Amy said.
“Baby, what’s going on?” Kane asked.
“Nothing,” Amy said.
“Amy,” Kane said.
“Look, I promised not to say a word to anyone,” Amy said.
“I won’t say anything, baby,” Kane said. Amy quietly told him what was going on. Kane nodded.
“So, there is no date?” Kane asked.
“No, I wanted to see his reaction,” Amy said.
“I guess we got our answer. You better tell Lucy tomorrow,” Kane said.
“I’ll text her now,” Amy said. She sent Lucy a text telling her what she did and what had happened.
She told Kane and he went upstairs.
