SOPHIE
Will’s eyes flashed a bit darker, but then he nodded. “I won’t do anything that you don’t want me to do,” he promised.
I followed Will up the stairs and looked back one more time. I saw Bonnie and Matt at the bar. They seemed to be having a good time.
Bonnie looked up as if she felt my gaze. She mouthed “Are you okay?” so I gave her my thumbs up. She smiled back but I also saw a little concern in her eyes. Did she feel my insecurity?
I looked back up at Will. No, that wasn’t necessary, I hoped.
We walked through a hallway. Most doors were closed. Some doors were ajar so I could peek inside. And what I saw was “adults only.”
I quickly followed Will. At the last door he stopped. He pulled out a key and opened the room. I went inside and Will closed the door behind me.
Everything was pitch-black. The only light that I could see came from an alarm clock.
I heard Will approaching me from behind. He suddenly spun me around and kissed me. I was a bit overwhelmed, but then I decided that this wasn’t too bad. I kissed him back.
His tongue slid over my lips, and I gave him access to my mouth. His tongue explored my mouth.
While we were kissing, I was thinking about it—stupid, I know, but I couldn’t help myself. Why didn’t this kiss feel like the movies? Why didn’t it spark?
I pulled away and wanted to stop the kiss. But Will had other ideas. His hands roamed my body. One hand stopped at my breast, and he squeezed. It hurt.
“Will, stop,” I told him. It seemed as if he didn’t hear me. I said it a bit louder. “Will, stop! I don’t want this right now. I’m not ready for it.”
Will stopped for a bit but then he started again. “Your body tells me to go further, beautiful,” he said.
I felt panic rising from my stomach. Did I really give him these signals with my body?
“Will, I don’t want this. Please stop,” I begged.
I felt my eyes watering. I tried to pull myself away from him.
“Stop! Now. I mean it!” I yanked hard and got loose from him.
I turned to the door and tried to open it. It was locked. Panic took over my body.
“Let me out, Will!” I yelled.
He just stood there with a nasty smirk on his face while he showed me the key in his hand.
Suddenly the door burst open. I don’t know how she did it but there she was. My best friend.
“Soof, are you okay?” she asked, and I nodded.
“Come on, let’s get out of here,” she said.
She gave Will a murderous look, pulled me away from him, and marched me out of the dorm.
We took the first cab we could get and went home.
She told me that Matt also made a move on her. She had shoved him off in an instant.
Bonnie was furious when she heard what had happened between Will and me. She told me to stay away from him—that he was no good. I just nodded.
As soon as we got home, I took a shower. Tears flooded from my eyes.
How could I be so dumb? I should have known better. And why was I so weak? I should have been stronger, just like Bonnie.
I curled up in my bed and fell asleep as soon as my body hit the mattress.
That night, the mysterious man appeared in my dreams again. Only this time he was distant.
I couldn’t see him, but I felt that he looked at me from a distance. I tried to reach out for him, but it didn’t work. I tried to call him, even without knowing his name, but he didn’t respond.
And then I woke up. I was a bit dizzy. I remembered the events from yesterday and my dream. I felt the tears welling up again, but I blinked them away. It had been enough. I had to woman up.
I was a strong independent woman who could take care of herself. I looked in my mirror and nodded to myself.
Let’s get to class!
The classes went by fast. And gladly, there was no sign of Will until I went to my last class.
I was walking from one building to another when suddenly someone grabbed me by my armpit and dragged me into a nearby alley.
I tried to scream, but just before a sound escaped my lips, a hand covered my mouth.
“Shhhh, Sophie, be still. It’s me, Will.”
The anxiety in my body only got worse at these words.
“Promise me you won’t scream, and I’ll promise you I won’t hurt you.”
I nodded my head frantically. My eyes widened in fear. Will slowly removed his hand from my mouth. I gasped for air and my eyes searched for a way out. But the only way out was behind Will.
Will put his hands up, as if to calm me down. “Listen, Sophie, I want to apologize to you about last night. I drank too much, and I should have listened to you.”
My fear was slowly calming. I looked him in the eye, and it looked like he was being honest with me.
“Please, Sophie, how can I make this up to you? I’d do anything.”
My brain worked overtime. What to do? I mean, had he really harmed me, or was it all just a misunderstanding, like he said?
He saw the doubt on my face. “What really happened, Sophie? We kissed and I felt you up. It wasn’t as if I harassed you, right? I really believed you were into it too.”
Maybe he was right. Maybe I should give him a second chance.
“Listen, Will, I just need some time to process this.”
Will’s face lit up. “So does that mean that I can make it right?” he asked.
I gave him a small smile. “Maybe. I’ll let you know soon, but now I really need to go to class, or I’ll be late.”
Will looked at me as if he was searching for a lie on my face. When he didn’t find anything, his body relaxed, and he stepped aside to let me pass. “Thank you, Sophie. I won’t mess it up again.”
I walked past Will and left him and the alley behind. I felt relieved.
On my way home, I thought back on what had happened.
I really should talk to Bonnie about this, I thought. ~Maybe she can give me some advice.~
Unfortunately, when I got home, I got a message from Bonnie that she’d be late tonight. She had a project with some other students, so that meant I couldn’t talk to her today. Well, maybe tomorrow. It was fine.
The next day I ran into Will again. He was very kind to me and asked me to go out with him on Saturday.
I almost said yes, but then I suddenly realized that I had dinner plans with Bonnie’s family.
“I’m sorry, Will, I really want to give you another chance, but I already have an appointment on Saturday.”
Will looked at me with big puppy eyes. “I really, really want to make it up to you. How about tomorrow night? Can I take you out then?”
I thought about it for a second, and then agreed. “Okay, Will, but remember, only to a public place. You need to earn my trust back.”
“You won’t regret it, Sophie. I promise.”
