Book 2: Cruel

“My brother’s looking for some extra help. Someone who can cook and clean, help out around the house. And he’s rich, so he’ll pay well. I know you need money.”
Something in the tone of Miranda’s voice told me she was leaving something out, but I was at the end of my rope and she knew that.
We’ve discussed my predicament numerous times. She was aware of the debt I was in and my desperate need to swim free.

Miranda reached down into her purse and pulled out a business card, handing it to me over top of the glass. “If you’re interested, here’s his card.”
She didn’t wait for a response, instead pushing her tray down toward the register to pay for her salad. Miranda didn’t need a response; she already knew my answer before I did.

Along with the information was a website and phone number. I placed it in my pocket and returned to work.

The address he gave me was only ten minutes away. I threw on something more presentable, a business casual dress, dabbed on a little bit of makeup, and rushed out the door to my car.
