Chapter 1
āCorridorsā are what they ended up calling them.
They could have just gone with the classical terms: wormholes, Einstein-Rosen bridges, subspace tunnels. But I guess they wanted to sound semi-original.
After more than four decades of experimentation, the black hole/white hole theory resulted in the first stable corridor. It transported a small ship farther than humankind had ever gone before. Too bad we hadnāt come up with a way for the poor guy to return.
Just kidding!
Petrov retired after his return to Earth and wrote three books, one of which is a compulsory read for any form of higher education.
Throughout the course of three decades, a group of six brave pioneers built the āRoad to Rome.ā The network of stable corridors led to Alpha Centauri Prime, the only habitable planet found orbiting our closest star.
In the last months, three ARC ships left Terra Prime. Earth had been renamed for some absurd reason. They said it was to distinguish between home worlds.
I found it a bit presumptuous, especially since the ships filled with colonists, fertilized animal embryos, and plant seeds still had to establish humankindās new holiday home.
Iād been separated from the rest of the colonists at the very last moment. The Padrona Corporation tasked me with an assignment so classified that even I didnāt have clearance!
All I knew was that Iād be transporting specialty cargo to the new planet. Apparently, it was crucial that it arrived after the colony ships. Imagine my shock when I was appointed as the only human occupant of a VIP passenger cruiser, instead of the standard cargo ship!
I had a very long journey ahead of me, but it would feel like just a few weeks. My only real task was to supervise the shipās transit between each exit and entry point.
I was the worldās first space nanny!
Did I mention that I was given only one directive? Under no circumstances should I tamper with the cargo!

Corridor opening in 5ā¦4ā¦3ā¦2ā¦1.
Wow! This was beautiful! Even though it looked slightly like a giant cosmic butthole was opening up in front of me. I'd only ever seen this light from the Earth's surface.
The ship slowly approached the event horizon and lurched forward as we entered our first corridor. It was nicknamed āLudovicoā after the captain of the mission that constructed the āRoad to Rome.ā
I felt like a total loser as I clapped to myself at the successful entry. I stared at the swirling motion in front of me for ten minutes, but it quickly started to make me dizzy. I sure as hell hoped that this ship was stocked with some proper snacks!
Everything on board this fucking ship was healthy!
The worst thing I could find to snack on were dried prunes! I wasnāt ready to spend my interstellar trip on the space throne, so I took the crackers instead.
This ship was enormous! Why the fuck was I here? Was this supposed to be for some corporate honcho who was currently traveling in cryo-sleep on an ARC ship?
There was a large bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, a fully equipped gym and sparring room, a media room, an art and music room, a bar area with a billiards table, and a swimming pool!
Holy fuck, I felt like royalty, even though none of it was meant for me. Was it? Nah!
I found a room that was seemingly locked with a retina scanner. What was such old ID tech doing on such a modern ship? Every other door had opened because it detected my neural implant.
Should I try it? Noooo! It was probably where they kept the mystery cargo. I shouldnāt be in there!

I was staring at the ceiling of the triple bed. It was too fucking quiet in space, I couldnāt sleep. Why was I here? Why did they pick me for this āmission,ā if I could even call it that?
My mind was going crazy with the curiosity of what was behind THE door. I couldnāt think of anything else. I'd gotten up three times with the intent of trying my eyeball on the scanner and always lay back down again.
How about a little wank in this expensive bed? It would be my quiet act of rebellion against the corporation. Shit, there werenāt any cameras anywhere, were there? No, they wouldnāt spy on their own elite.
I let my dick pop out of my underpants and spat in my hand.
Was I the first person to jerk off inside a corridor? The idea of me being famous just for that made me laugh.
It didnāt take very long for me to come. I hadnāt fucked anyone in months and the training facility didnāt give many opportunities for a quick tug.

At thirty-three years old, I was the youngest pilot of an interstellar ship, but it didnāt really count since the navigational AI did most of the work.
I didnāt look that bad for my age and I was sure that I could find at least one pretty guy amongst the colonists that wouldnāt mind a little man love! Surely, they had sent at least one?
Oh, fuck!
What if I was the only queen on a whole planet of alpha males? What a horrible thought! Let's calm down by checking if I could open THE door.
Holy shit! My eyeball had security clearance! The door opened with a whoosh, and I carefully stepped into the small dark space.
The room was empty, except for a small metal box. It had no distinguishing markings, except for a plaque with the Padrona corporate logo. What could possibly be that valuable and fit in this box?
I hesitated for a moment. Would they find out if I quickly looked inside? Surely not! I lifted the lid carefully and to my utter disappointment foundā¦a black ball!
What the fuck?! So much effort for this thing?
What would happen if I touched it? I really shouldnāt because my only directive was not toā¦ Oops, my finger slipped.
The black ball lifted into the air and cracked open. A blue light shimmered from within and just when I thought that it was a fancy ornament for Alpha Centauriās first garden, a cloud of black sprayed in all directions.
What the fuck?!
I scrambled all the way to the door but couldnāt look away. The cloud was moving strangely. Were those bones?
I watched utterly spellbound as a skeleton started to form underneath the cloud. It moved up and finished the skull before moving down again, adding muscle and tissue.
Once the second layer was complete, the cloud moved up again and added skin. I couldnāt take my eyes offā¦ Wow, what a beautiful ass!
What the fuck kind of technology was this? A dude was being printed out of black dust before my very eyes! A nice strong back, an elegant neck, and now the head was also complete. The last of the dust formed into a perfect coif of dark blond hair.
The genie in the ball slowly turned around andā¦ Fuck me, what a body! My underwear wasnāt meant for this kind of spectacle.
Sparkling green eyes stared at me in curiosity as I desperately tried to think of boring things to make my woody disappear.
āWhat the fuck are you?ā I whispered.
āI am ADAM, a digital archive matrix. Whatā¦the fuckā¦are you?ā the strikingly gorgeous "whatever he was" answered.
āVee.ā I offered my name with a wave. I hadnāt dared move from my spot by the door yet.
