Chapter 1
The Alpha and Luna Series: A Christmas Special
Jade
“Good morning, Angel.” Darren kissed my lips.
He had just come back from practice. Even though he was no longer the pack’s Alpha, he still practiced every morning with them. I do not practice every day, and my practice days have significantly slowed. I would rather spend time with my grandchildren. Not right now though, right now I was focusing on a new project.
“What are you working on?” Darren asked while pointing to the list I had on the computer screen.
A smile broke out on my face. I was jittery and excited about this new idea. Darren smiled too, probably happy to see me happy.
“I want to host a Christmas ball.”
Darren’s smile slipped. I frowned, realizing he didn’t like the idea.
“Don’t do that, Angel. Giving me those sad eyes. We are retired. We’re not supposed to host parties or anything of that nature,” Darren said.
A shiver ran through me when he kissed my neck. “We’re supposed to be focused on other things.” Kiss. “Like how we are empty nesters.” Another neck kiss. “How quiet the house is right now.” His kisses had moved to my collarbone. “How your arousal is all around me,” he growled, letting me know Goliath was at the surface.
My dress was on the floor in no time. Darren sported one regular blue eye and the other was bright blue. He and Goliath are both in control. He threw me on his shoulder and stomped up the stairs to the shower.
“Are you ready, little mate?” Goliath didn’t wait for my answer.
After multiple rounds with both Goliath and Darren, I lay wrapped in Darren’s arms. Darren’s fingertips moved up and down my arm slowly. The sparks moved up and down my arm, calming me.
“We can host a Christmas ball,” Darren breathed into my hair. “Why do you want it so bad? Does it have anything to do with your premonition?”
I hadn’t had one of those in years. I thought I wouldn’t get them anymore since our kids are grown with their own families. I was sure since they had their own gifts then my gifts were no longer needed. The Moon Goddess probably laughed at me for thinking that.
“Yeah,” I snuggled more into his chest. “It’s all a blur. I can’t make it out too much. All I know is that one of my daughters is hurting. They’re hurting bad and calling out to me. She keeps saying, “Mom, mom, I don’t know what to do.
I don’t know which girl it is though. It could be Daniella, Dakota, Felicity, or Mandy. Then the Elders show up and the vision fades. It’s a mess. I’ve never had a premonition where I couldn’t understand it. To get my mind off it, I want to host this ball and have fun.”
He squeezes me into him some more. “Do you think the Elders are getting tired of my excuses for not joining them? Could they do something to one of our girls to get me to join?” He voiced his thoughts.
“I doubt it. They still have to answer to Damion. If they were crazy enough to mess with our family, he wouldn’t mind killing them.”
I was sure I was right, but this blurry premonition had me on edge. A ball will help me spend more time with my girls to figure out who is hurting. But it will also help keep my mind off the impending dread I feel.
Later that evening, Felicity and my grandbabies visited me.
“Grandma, grandma,” they ran to me.
I held my arms open for them as they nearly knocked me over with their hugs. Aaron stuck to me like glue while his siblings, Adonis and Alexa, went to the playroom. It was time to get the first step done for my party.
“Felicity, I want to host a Christmas ball. I know we only have less than three weeks to plan, but I know we can do it.”
Felicity eyed me up and down. She had learned to read my emotions like my children. I kept a stoic face, not letting her know I felt the need to do this. After a moment of silence, she agreed.
“Okay, mom. Since we don’t have a lot of time, maybe we can get Daniella and Dakota to help. That way we won’t feel rushed to do anything. I mean, we were already coming together as a family for Christmas; why not make it a special occasion and we get to spend more time together.”
She was getting excited just thinking about it. I knew planning this would be fun. I agreed with her, and we set up a time to go visit the other girls to tell them about the ball.
Darren and Jaxon pouted as Felicity and I told them goodbye. We were headed to the Kingdom to see Daniella and have her help plan the ball. We had already phoned all of the girls about the ball, and everyone was excited to help. Well, all of us except for Dakota. She tried to sound happy, but I knew something was wrong with my daughter.
I didn’t try to get her to open up over the phone because I knew she wouldn’t. I would wait until I saw her and then we would talk. My kids know they never have to hide anything from me or Darren. Thinking about the phone call with Dakota brought up the dread I felt from my premonition.
I must have let my emotions get the better of me because Darren pulled me into his arms. ‘What’s wrong, Angel? I can feel your dread and sadness,’ he mind linked me.
‘Nothing, babe.’
‘You’re lying. I won’t let you go until you tell me.’
“Told you Dad was worse than me,” Jaxon told Felicity. “He’s holding her hostage right now. I have half a mind to do like him.”
Felicity giggled as she kissed Jaxon. Jaxon was half right. His dad didn’t want to let me go but it wasn’t for the reason he thought. The only way to calm Darren’s mind was for me to tell him the truth. It was still going to worry him though.
‘I think I’ve figured out which child the premonition is about, but I won’t know for sure until I see them.’
‘Tell me.’ He mind linked as soon as I finished the sentence.
‘Dakota. I’ll be seeing her in two days though. She’s avoiding talking on the phone.’ I told him the truth.
‘Let me know as soon as you see her. I’ll have Jaxon teleport me to her pack when you get there.’
I nodded. There was no use arguing with him. He was in dad mode especially since Dakota was the baby of the bunch. Granted she was no longer a baby. I would tell him when I’m almost there so he can see her too.
