A couple of hours later, I was driving dark mountain roads, utterly lost. Apparently, Bear Creek wasnât just the middle of nowhereâit was the end of the fucking Earth.
I hadnât seen another car in miles, let alone a gas station or a McDonaldâs. So no McFlurry sunset for me.
Up here there were no streetlights. No telephone poles. No guard rails. Nothing on either side of me but trees. Trees and trees and more fucking trees.
I saw a yellow glimmer in the dark. A road sign!
