Yasmin smiled at the compliment, her eyes closed as she melted into the almost blistering water of the spa. The vapors swirling around them were a mix of steam from the spa and fog from the snowy landscape outside.

Jayda had needed some heavy prompting and prodding to agree to climb into the spa with Yasmin, and of course, Yasmin was right. It was amazing.

“Aren’t I always right, though?” Yasmin laughed.

She was the carefree one between the two women—the one who jumped right into the unknown, the adventurous one, the one who would almost always say yes.

Jayda, on the other hand, was the yin to her yang. She was hesitant, cautious, and would rather be safe than sorry.

Jayda rolled her eyes—not that Yasmin could see, with her eyes still closed. “Yeah, yeah, yeah…” She laughed.

The two friends sipped their wine and enjoyed the quiet of their snow chalet.

Normally, this spa deck would be open to the rest of the shared house-style chalet, but it was low season. Jayda and Yasmin seemed to be the only ones who had booked in so far.

“You need to let loose more often,” Yasmin said. “You stand back way too much. You’ll miss out on life if you keep letting it pass you by. How often have you only done things because I encouraged you to?”

Jayda scoffed with amusement. “More like shoved and peer pressured me into.”

“Yeah, sure, whatever. Same thing. My point is”—Yasmin shrugged, taking another sip of her wine—“you need to just say yes. Say yes to the next thing that comes your way. You’re in your thirties, single, gorgeous, and…scared shitless of the world.”

Jayda laughed and splashed the bubbling water at Yasmin. “Thanks a lot!”

Yasmin laughed along with her and drained her glass. “If the shoe fits…!”

She watched Jayda finish off her wine as well and nodded toward their empty wine bottle. “I’ll open another one. Hang here. I’ll grab a snack as well.”

Jayda nodded and slipped down further into the bubbling water, eyes closing once again in relaxation.

Yasmin braced herself for the cold, climbed out of the water, quickly tossed her towel around her shoulders, and bolted across the stone deck toward the warm interior of the chalet.

Yasmin was holding a wine bottle in one hand and searching through their meager array of snacks when a throat cleared behind her.

“Well, that wasn’t a sight I was expecting when I arrived here. Not that I’m complaining.”

Yasmin jumped and spun around to find herself face-to-face with a handsome stranger. “Goddamn, you scared the shit out of me!”

The stranger laughed awkwardly and stepped back, leaning his hip against the kitchen counter. “Sorry! I thought you were a friend of mine. I normally stay here with some friends too, but I guess they aren’t here yet. I didn’t realize there would be others here as well. I’m Sam.”

Yasmin’s eyes slowly took in the stranger in front of her. Dirty blonde hair, matching stubble, and what she could assume was a toned body beneath the warm knitted sweater.

Despite the bulk of the sweater, it still clung to him and showed off his athletic physique.

“You’re not some bad guy who’s going to kill me, are you?” she half-joked, keeping eye contact as she continued bending down to snatch a pack of chocolates—the first thing she felt in the pantry.

Sam chuckled. “I’m only bad when I want to be.” He winked. “But overall? No, you don’t have to worry about me being a serial killer.”

Seemingly satisfied, Yasmin shrugged in acceptance. “Okay, then. Good enough for me.” She nodded her head toward the spa deck. “Come out and meet Jayda, in case you scare the shit out of her by accident too. She’s not as accepting of a random guy surprising her from behind as I am.”

Though she meant it literally—referring to what had happened moments ago—there was a slight sexual undertone to her remark.

Sam must’ve picked up on it, because he smirked and held out a hand to the side, gesturing for her to lead the way. He didn’t exactly hide his matching, lazy perusal of Yasmin’s goosebumped body as she passed, but it didn’t come off as sleazy—just curious and appreciative.

The frosty bite of the chilly outdoors stung their skin once they stepped outside, and Jayda turned to face them.

At the first sight of Sam, she gasped and ducked lower until the bubbling spa water reached her neck.

“Jayda, this is Sam. Sam, Jayda,” Yasmin introduced, waving the wine bottle back and forth. “I know, I know, not the snack I was originally intending to bring back…but who’s complaining.”

Sam laughed and began explaining that he was also staying at the chalet, like he normally did each year.

It must’ve been the mix of wine, the relaxing atmosphere, and Sam’s easygoing attitude, but it didn’t take long for Yasmin to start pressuring Sam into joining them.

“You’re ruining the fun, Sam!” Yasmin laughed. “Join us, rather than sitting over there and shivering your cute ass off!”

“I came here to snowboard!” he laughed back, hands raised in surrender. “I didn’t bring any swimwear!”

Yasmin rolled her eyes while Jayda continued to laugh.

“Then just strip down to your underwear! Or skinny dip! Oh, actually…do that! I dare you!”

Yasmin had been pouring more and more wine into Jayda’s glass the whole time they were getting to know one another, and she was utterly on par with her charismatic friend.

Jayda joined in with Yasmin’s chanting, laughing, “Take it off!” while Sam failed to find a reason not to join.

An uttered “ah, fuck it” was barely heard over the girls’ giggling, and once Sam stood to pull his knitted jumper and shirt off, their cheers of delight rang out into the mountain air.

He was down to his boxers when the girls cheered him to keep going. He laughed and snapped the waistband teasingly.

“I’ll take it off if you ladies join me. No need for me to be the only one here naked.”

Yasmin bit her lip in excitement, eyeing Sam’s thumb as it played teasingly with the elastic of his waistband.
