The Warning

AsaLynn

There a woman lays in the dense forest. In a clearing that holds a beautiful meadow of moonflowers and primrose. The moonlight cascades down on her silky skin, making her glow a beautiful blue hue.

She is covered in a white lace gown that flows like water over her body. She looks at peace as her platinum-blonde curly hair is sprawled out on the grass around her.

The wind blows a few strands, and I can smell the flowers’ scent waft through the air as they bloom under the full moon.

All is silent. Still. As if life itself is put on pause. Just peace. The sky is clear, and the stars are shining like diamonds in an ocean of blue.

The woman moves and rises to her feet as if she senses me watching her. She turns to me and smiles.

I can see she is older but still in her prime. Aging only noticed by the stressed skin around her eyes. But you can see she is kind.

She walks toward me. Moving with such grace it seems as if she is floating across the field itself.

She is so beautiful I cannot take my eyes off of her. Yet she looks so familiar. The energy flowing from her feels like home. I want to drown in that feeling.

“Asa my dear, you have grown.”

I try to respond, but no sounds come out. I cannot find my voice. I begin to panic. My hand lifts to my throat as I try to understand what’s going on.

“Do not fear me, child. You know who I am. Just feel it. Look to your wolf and she will guide you.” Her voice is so calming, almost too calming.

I’m so confused. I can barely think. Who is this flowing woman, and what is she talking about? Why does my voice not work? I listen, though, and go to Cypris.

“Cypris, please answer me. What is going on? Help me!”

I can feel Cypris. Instead of her normal irritation, she seems at ease. Whining but with a yearning sound. It almost sounds as if she is purring like a kitten.

“Cypris?”

I feel her rise, and power radiates through me. Memories flash before me. But not pictures. Feeling and sounds.

I feel like I am floating in warm water, and then I hear a woman’s voice singing a lullaby.

The sound is so tranquil that even a babe could not cry when hearing the song. It is so soothing and emotional. Encasing my mind.

I feel warm and safe when it hits me.

“Mom!” I try to say the words I muster to find, but they don’t have sound. My mouth moves, but it doesn’t project sound. It seems as if the air is swallowing the sound.

“There you go, baby. Yes, it’s me. The Moon Goddess blessed me to be here. You have grown to be more beautiful than I could have imagined.

“I can feel your power. It’s stronger than anything I have felt before. Your father trained you well but not all of you.

“I am so sorry I left you. I didn’t want to. I’m never far away, please know that. I have watched you grow, and I cannot explain how proud of you I am.”

I feel a single tear slide down my cheek. I have longed my entire life to hear my mother’s voice. To know she is proud.

“Do not cry for me, love. As much as I want this to go on forever, I am not here for very long. I came to warn you.” My mother’s face turns distressed.

“You are not everything you know yourself to be. There is something waiting to come out, and it is so very close to coming to its full promise.

“Danger is close, but you must not give up. Search deep inside and hold on. The blood of the true will awaken you.” Her voice seems rushed and scared.

I try to speak, to ask what she means. What danger? Blood of the true? Search for what? What does she mean “I’m not everything I know?”

But nothing comes out of my mouth. Nothing is making any sense.

All of a sudden the clear skies grow dark. Dark ominous clouds rush around like shadows waiting to attack. The wind begins to howl like a train. So loud I almost cover my ears.

I watch the fear amplify on my mother's face. She is frantically looking around. The air thickens, and I can feel the darkness suffocate me.

Her face begins to contort, still beautiful but not the same. It no longer looks entirely human.

“I have to go, Asa, but please, I beg you. Listen to my words!” I watch her hold back tears as she turns to run in the opposite direction.

The black shadows chase her. Everything begins to grow dark.

No! No! I just got my mother back. This can’t be happening.

MOM! MOM! DON’T LEAVE ME!

My body begins to burn like fire. I feel like I’m burning alive! Make it stop! Goddess, please make this pain stop!

I sit up, covered in sweat. Panting. Screaming. My face wet with my sobs. I look around and see Leviathan standing at the door, frantic and frozen in place.

His eyes are not fully gold, though his wolf is at the surface. Staring at me. His eyes hold what seems to be fear and confusion. He does not move.

I hold the sheets in my fist, shaking, unable to understand what’s going on.

Where is my mother? Why does Leviathan not approach me? Why is my body burning yet cold? Nothing makes sense in this moment.

It was just a dream?
