Tucker steps into Olivia’s world expecting discomfort, but not the quiet pull to become someone he barely recognizes. Thistle Hill gleams with charm and sharp edges, where polished smiles hide cutting expectations and belonging comes with a price. Determined to stand beside Olivia, Tucker reshapes himself to fit the mold, trading rough edges for refinement and slipping into a life that feels both thrilling and dangerously easy to lose in. Olivia watches it happen, torn between holding on and letting go, as the man she loves starts to blur at the edges. Their connection, once bright and effortless, now flickers under pressure. In a place where appearances matter most, they must decide what is worth keeping… and what they are willing to risk to stay true to themselves.
Prologue
TUCKER
“It is always with the best intentions that the worst work is done.” —Oscar Wilde
Olivia rested on top of me, as naked as the day she was born, her tongue sliding against mine. The wetness pooling between her thighs dampened my leg as she straddled it, occasionally grinding her clit on my skin.
Her chest pressed against me, and one set of her fingers was tangled in my curly skater hair while the other moved beneath our thin sheets, slowly stroking my painfully hard cock. Her palm was nearly soaked in my pre-cum, so it slid along my lengthy shaft with ease.
She knew I usually needed a little more speed to finish, so she was being nothing more than a naughty little tormentor.
“You’re killing me here, Ollie…”
“I thought it felt good.”
“It does. That’s the problem.”
I swore she was purposely trying to turn me into a one-touch wonder, so the minute I finally got to slide inside her, I would explode.
Our whitewashed bedroom door suddenly swung open. Malcolm barged in, holding a sheet of paper.
Olivia tore her hand from my manhood and rolled away, tugging the charcoal sheet over her breasts in panic.
“Dude!” I propped myself up on an elbow and glanced at Olivia, who was, thankfully, concealed.
I directed my frustrated expression at Malcolm. “Boundaries, man…”
The parchment in Malcolm’s palm trumped every bit of concern in the room and the knocking rule we set. His pure-white polo contrasted with his deep complexion, and his buzzed hair looked like a permanent pitch-dark shadow on his head.
His rectangular, black-rimmed reading glasses sat on the bridge of his nose as he held the letter in front of him.
“I know, I know, I’m sorry…,” he muttered.
Olivia furrowed her brow as she sat up from the mattress, clutching the cotton covering her chest. “What’s wrong, Mal?”
“We’re getting evicted.”
“What?” I snapped.
“Yeah, look…” Malcolm approached our bedside, handing me the message.
It crinkled as I snatched it from his grasp and started reading from the top.
The warm flesh of Olivia’s cheek pressed into the ball of my shoulder as she read it alongside me, keeping the sheets balled in her fist against her chest.
I couldn’t believe this. Malcolm was one hundred percent correct.
Olivia had been living here for nearly six months, and everything had been great. It figured things couldn’t continue to be this perfect. Why would they?
“Someone else bought the house, and they want us out by the first of the month,” Malcolm explained.
“I… I—I didn’t even know it was for sale,” Olivia said.
Malcolm shrugged. “Neither did I.”
This couldn’t have happened at a worse time. If our real estate agent couldn’t even find a property for us, how could we?
“What are we gonna do?” Olivia asked, anxiety lacing her tone. “Our realtor can’t find a house in the city near UPenn or the hospital. Nobody is selling right now in this economy.”
“I think my buddy will let me crash with him, but his place is tiny, so…” Malcolm’s sentence was lost in heavy air.
So, no room for Olivia and me.
Wait a minute; I didn’t have family, but Olivia did. Her relationship with her parents was strained, but what kind of parents wouldn’t help their child in need? Even if it involved letting us move in for a short time while we tried to find our dream home.
I glanced at Olivia.
Her lengthy waves swept around her arms, nearly falling to her hips, thanks to her professionally installed hair extensions—whatever those were.
Olivia’s natural umber hair fell between her shoulder blades since she chopped it months ago, but I guessed she missed the length and couldn’t wait for it to grow out again.
Her ocean-blue eyes swelled.
“Tuck…” She shook her head. “No.”
I furrowed my brow. “We don’t really have a choice, Ollie.”
“Please, anything but that…”
“Under a bridge? Because that’s our only other option. You said the dorms are full, and our realtor has been getting nowhere.”
Her breath wavered between us, anxiety flooding her eyes. She remained speechless.
The emotional abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother had kept their relationship at arm’s length, and rightfully so.
However, perhaps this incident would give them a chance to be around one another for more than five minutes so they could heal old wounds.
I glanced at Malcolm, who was staring at me with confused eyes. He knew we went there for breakfast sometimes, but Olivia had never talked about their problems in front of him.
She always reserved those conversations for me behind closed doors.
“Hey, M.J… you mind?” I asked, gesturing toward the bedroom’s exit.
He nodded. “Sure thing, man.”
Malcolm turned and wandered out the door, pulling it shut with a click.
“I’ll have to get rid of some of my clothes…,” Olivia muttered, eyeing the bedsheets over my lap. “I never imagined living under a bridge outside, but I think it could…it could work, right?”
“Ollie, Ollie…” I tipped her chin, forcing her gaze to meet mine. “Just call your parents.”
“Tuck, I can’t.” She swiveled in my direction. “You don’t understand. It’s one thing when you and I go over for brunch on Sundays, but living there?”
“Your dad seems all right with me, at least. It’s not a big deal. I think after everything they put you through, they can help you out this one time.”
“Tuck, it’s because of everything they put me through that I don’t wanna go back there.”
Believe me, if I had gone through half the things she had with her parents, I wouldn’t have wanted to return to my childhood home either.
At least it was a mansion on a massive piece of property. We would be able to get away when we needed to.
“This time, it will be different,” I said.
“How?”
“Because this time, I’ll be with you…”
“Tucker, you don’t know them like I do.”
She was right. I didn’t. I would have been lying if I said it didn’t bother me that they loved her ex-boyfriend, Reggie, and knew him well, yet I was still on the outside looking in.
“I’ll get to know them,” I assured her. “And who knows, maybe your mom will be different this time, too.”
“She’s been stuck in her ways for forty-five years. That’s not gonna change.”
Despite our chat, her beauty called me back to the thought of her naked under that thin cotton, which made my desire spike.
She clung to the sheet, but unbeknownst to her, it was slipping from her right breast, exposing half of her tanned nipple.
I pursed my lips slightly and gazed at her with smiling eyes.
“Don’t,” Olivia warned.
I raised a brow. “Don’t what?”
“You know what…”
She had grown to hate it when I looked at her like that, especially during a serious talk. She knew what was coming because it turned her into putty in my hands.
“Okay, well, what about this instead?” I asked, brushing her long hair over her shoulder.
I nudged my way into the crook of her neck and pressed my lips against her skin.
I had learned that the delicate spot just above her collarbone was the key to her pussy.
“Tuck…,” she groaned.
I hummed against her skin. “Hmm?”
“Stop.”
“Why?” I whispered.
“You know why…”
I kept my kisses steady, slightly opening my mouth, letting her feel the teasing stroke of my tongue.
A soft moan slipped past her lips despite her resistance.
My kisses drifted upward, and I tenderly licked the shell of her ear.
She shuddered and moaned louder at my tease.
“Make the call,” I whispered. “Make the call, and I’ll do that special little thing with my tongue you like…”
I moved from her ear, leaving it damp, with nothing more than my promise before pressing a single, leisurely kiss to her lips.
“Ugh,” Olivia growled, rolling her eyes. “Fine.”
She fell to her back and rolled onto her side, stretching out her arm to grab her iPhone from the nightstand.
She sat up, her anxiety reappearing in her expression as she scrolled through her contacts.
Her thumb hovered over their number, but instead of tapping it, she looked at me. “You’re sure?”
I gave her a reassuring nod.
The pad of her thumb dropped onto their names, and she pressed her cell to the ear I’d just had my mouth on.
This would be a good thing…
I think.
