“Well?” He spoke calmly as he looked at me with those beautiful greens.
I could tell I was blinking a lot, and while it probably made me seem guilty, I was just trying not to stare at his glaringly handsome face for too long at a time.
“Victoria.” He paused as he gave me a stern look in the eyes. “I know you lied on your résumé.”
“You gave references to these companies, and frankly, I don’t know how Pam didn’t catch you with these fake names.”
He picked up a folder from his desk and opened it to look at what I assumed was my résumé.
Oh, that’s right. The lady from human resources is Pam. I had charmed the fuck out of her to rush the hiring process.
“Well? What do you have to say for yourself?” He put the folder back down on the desk in front of me and tilted his head to make sure I met his gaze.
I sighed, realizing that it may be my first and last day working here. “With all due respect, Mr. Belrose, everyone lies on their résumé.”
“What?” The astonished look on his face almost sent a smile to my lips.
“Everyone lies to impress. Everyone wants to make a good impression.” I spoke candidly.
“And what makes you think I would keep you working here with this ‘good impression’ you’ve built through fake references?”
He had a raised brow, but the slight lift at the corners of his mouth suggested that I had a shot at getting on his good side.
“Because I’ve done my job. I’ve done everything as you asked, short of the coffee mess from this morning, and even then, that was just due to first-day nerves.”
I responded confidently, although I found no source for it. I had no reason to sound so certain.
He had a funny expression on his face as he studied me, and the silence was getting on my nerves.
“So, to be honest, Mr. Belrose”—I stood up, which was probably a mistake because I was now face-to-face with him—“I think I deserve a chance to stay.”
He opened his mouth, ready to speak, but there was a loud knock on the door, and I turned around to find Rob standing at the door.
My eyes widened, but as I turned back to face Mr. Belrose, I held back my shock.
“Go back to work. We’ll talk later.”
I made my way back to my desk, fairly certain that he had gotten the message, but I was still shaking in my bones. I could already guess why he was here. There wasn’t exactly paperwork on the job last Friday.
They only knew that they hired me from Rob’s pool of workers, so of course, he gets called in for some answers.
The air was thick with anxiety as I stared through the window of Mr. Belrose’s office with insane intensity.
The vibration of my phone snapped me back into reality, and as I checked it, I found a text from an unfamiliar number.
I rolled my eyes before typing a reply.
I hadn’t realized that I was grinning, but it faded as I watched Rob exit the office and head straight to me.
I kept my eyes alert as I waited for him to turn and leave, but he kept walking toward me.
“Victoria, please validate Mr. Hampton’s parking,” Mr. Belrose stuck his head out of his door to say. I waited for him to close his door before bursting into laughter.
“Shut the fuck up; I gave them a fake name.” He kept his head low as he handed me his parking ticket and looked down at my cleavage. I didn’t mind. That bra always gives me great cleavage.
“You better stop making fun of me, considering I just saved your ass in there.” He took the ticket from my hands.
“What happened?” I asked, eyeing the office to see if Mr. Belrose was watching. He wasn’t.
He was actually hard at work, and the focused look on his face really resembled his sex face.
“I’ll text you everything. I gotta go.” And with that, Rob left the office in a hurry.
Within ten minutes, I got a string of text messages from him, including a picture of my boss’s card that had his personal number on it along with some other social media usernames.
Mr. Belrose had apparently asked him a series of questions about the mystery girl at the party, and Rob gave nothing away.
When it became clear that Rob wasn’t going to give anything away, Mr. Belrose gave him his card with his personal contact information on it.
He was telling him to give it to the mystery girl.
I sat there staring at all the usernames on the various apps to talk to him on. I wasn’t sure of what he wanted. Did he just want to know who was behind the mask? Did he want to have sex again?
But still, the temptation was too strong, and I found myself opening Snapchat. I logged out of my account, registered for a new one, and neglected to enter in my phone number.
There, in my account settings, was a red exclamation point begging me to put in a phone number, but I decided against it.
I got up and made my way to the bathroom. There was an out-of-order sign hanging on the women’s door. Seriously? There was another women’s room on the floor below me, but I knew that by the time I walked down there I’d lose the nerve.
After making sure it was empty, I walked into the men’s bathroom. I’d done it once already. Who cares if I did it again?
I popped into a stall and whipped out my camera, flipping it to selfie mode. After experimenting with a few angles, I decided that the lighting in here sucked. I stepped out towards the wall-length sink and mirror, but more importantly, the large bright lights that ringed them.
I walked back to the door and peeked my head out, checking up and down the hallway. Satisfied, I quickly stripped out of my shirt. I sat on the sink and put my phone camera on selfie mode. The soft light from the mirrors flowed over my shoulders, highlighted my collarbones, and spilled onto my cleavage and the bra Mr. Belrose liked so much.
I found the most alluring angle I could, careful not to give away too much information. I was tempted to include my lips, but I was afraid he would recognize the shade of lipstick I was wearing. I snapped the photo and smiled as I looked it over.
Heart pounding, I sent it with the caption “Remember me?”
I only had to wait a few seconds.
I bit my lip as I read his messages. I could feel warmth blooming at my core. I closed my eyes as I imagined his rough, calloused hands gliding across my skin.
My eyes flew open as I remembered where I was. A familiar face was leaning against the wall, a casual, arrogant smile on his lips.
“Drake,” I gasped.
His gaze dripped down my body, and something in his eyes fanned the flame that was inside of me. Was it just me, or was Drake kind of hot? I saw him notice the phone in my hands.
“Is that sexy selfie for me?”
