When you’re royalty—and dragons—finding a moment alone isn’t easy. But Queen Kira and King Cerion know exactly how to make the most of a rare escape from the throne. Far from the eyes of their court, these dragon rulers steal away to the wilds for a secret picnic, where duty drops away and desire takes the lead. In the soft hush of the wilderness, passion burns hotter than any dragon’s fire as they remind each other that ruling together means playing together too. One morning. No titles. Just two dragons, a blanket beneath the sky, and a heat that refuses to be tamed.
A Morning Surprise
KIRA
A month had passed since Cerion and I sealed our bond in the mating ceremony.
The morning sun was sneaking through the gaps in the half-closed curtains, nudging me awake with its warm touch.
I rolled over in bed, expecting to find Cerion’s firm body next to mine. But I was met with disappointment.
The other side of the bed was cold and empty, a realization that hit me as I blinked my eyes open and stared at the vacant space.
I couldn’t help but wonder where he was. Cerion wasn’t an early riser, and he usually needed a bit of coaxing to get out of bed.
And by coaxing, I mean sex. Cerion needed a good morning romp to kickstart his day.
And I wasn’t one to complain. Quite the opposite, especially when it came to making love with him.
There was something about the feel of his body against mine—his smooth, hard chest brushing against my breasts, pulling me onto his lap, our legs entwined, his arousal pressing against me.
He knew the effect it had on me. It turned me into a wild creature, craving the touch of his manhood and the taste of his lips.
When we made love, our dragons connected too. It was incredible what our bond could do, what it could unleash within us.
When we weren’t together, we were incomplete. Our dragons would lose their sanity without each other.
I hugged Cerion’s pillow, rolling back to my side of the bed. I breathed in his scent, closing my eyes to savor the lingering traces of his cologne.
Just a few more minutes, I told myself, pressing the pillow against my cheek and nose.
This was a necessary ritual before the day began, filled with meetings and mundane matters like expenses, mine progress, or council concerns.
Life as royalty could be monotonous at times. But amid the monotony, there was also excitement.
Beyond the council meetings and prying eyes, there was an element of thrill. Every day with Cerion was an adventure.
Whether we were entwined in each other’s arms or soaring through the endless skies in our dragon forms, every moment was exhilarating.
Wasn’t it strange? How we went from foes to lovers? How we realized we couldn’t live without each other?
Our first week together was filled with challenges, and I knew there were many more to come. But I was confident we’d face them together—as a team.
I sighed softly, stretching my arms above my head as I opened my eyes.
It was time to get up. I’d spent enough time daydreaming about staying in bed, wrapped in Cerion’s arms. But reality eventually seeped in, and I knew I needed to shake off my laziness.
As I fully opened my eyes, I noticed a neatly folded note on Cerion’s nightstand.
His handwriting was flawless, as always. My name was elegantly written in dark ink on the crisp white paper.
I quickly unfolded the letter and started reading.
My dearest Kira,
I love watching you sleep, Kira. I love the way the morning sun filters through the curtains and bathes your skin in a warm, golden glow. I love how you stir but never fully wake until I wrap my arms around you, pulling you close. I love the way your eyes flutter open, the depth of their blue taking my breath away. I wish we could stay like that forever, tangled in each other, communicating without words. But for now, I need you to get up and meet me at the dragon’s entrance. I have a surprise for you, my love.
I held the note close to my heart, letting out a soft sigh.
Cerion had always been a bit of a mystery to me. He was often cold and serious, but there were moments when he showed a softer, sweeter side.
Waking up to a love note from him was one of those moments, and it made my heart flutter.
The dragon’s entrance usually meant one of two things. Either we were going to shift into our dragon forms and soar through the sky, or we were going to make love with wild abandon.
Either way, I was excited.
I hopped out of bed and practically skipped to my closet.
Cerion had a way of making me feel giddy, like a teenager in love for the first time. And in a way, I was.
Before him, I’d never been in love, never been courted. My father had forbidden it. But now, I was head over heels for a man who had once been known as the Dragon of Ruin.
I chose a blue silk gown for the day. It was soft against my skin and hugged my curves in all the right places.
I added a pair of silver heels and a touch of makeup—pink lipstick, a golden shimmer on my cheekbones, and a bit of concealer under my eyes.
My hair was still curled from the night before. I gave myself one last look in the mirror before heading out the door, nodding to the guards as I passed.
I hurried down the hallway, my heart pounding with anticipation.
When I reached the dragon’s entrance, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. The stone archway, carved with dragons, brought back memories of our ceremony, the night we became one, the night my dragon emerged.
Cerion was waiting for me, his back to me, his muscles visible beneath his black silk shirt.
He turned his head to look at me, a half-smile playing on his lips. “Good morning, my queen.”
I felt a flutter in my chest. “Good morning, my king.”
His tongue darted out to wet his lips. “You look delicious this morning.”
I laughed, playing along with his teasing. “I didn’t know dragons had such big appetites.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Really? I’m always hungry when I look at you.”
I blushed, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks. “So, what’s the surprise?”
He shrugged, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “I can’t tell you. That would ruin the surprise.”
I rolled my eyes, walking toward him. “You know I’m not good at waiting.”
He reached out, his thumb brushing against my cheek.
“A queen must learn patience. She must always be composed.”
I snorted, grabbing his wrist. “Thanks for the lesson in etiquette.”
He looked down at me, a smirk on his face. We were both testing each other—pushing each other’s boundaries.
“You were into it, weren’t you?” I shot back, feeling the blush creep up my cheeks.
“Perhaps I was,” he responded, a shrug in his voice—our gazes locked in a playful dance.
“At last, you’re owning up to it,” I chuckled.
Cerion, in response, looped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer. “Just a quick flight and we’ll be at the surprise,” he said, our fingers lacing together as he guided me toward the dragon’s entrance.
I took a deep, steadying breath—readying myself for the transformation.
